Woman Has Borrowed 25,000 Library Books

91-year-old Louise Brown is The Authors Guild's worst nightmare. Since 1946 she has read about a dozen books a week and has never paid for a single page. Now she is on the brink of checking out book number 25,000. Most impressive is the fact that Louise has never incurred a single late fee. Janice Goldie, of Dumfries and Galloway Libraries, said, "We are amazed at Mrs. Brown's achievements. When she first joined the library service she was allowed to borrow six books a week. This has now risen to 12 and she always takes her full quota. Although she has borrowed nearly 25,000 books, she has never once had to pay an overdue charge. The staff at Stranraer Library think she's a remarkable lady and look forward to her weekly visits. They would like to know if anyone can beat her reading record."

      Just because you're an author? How do you even know she read any of your books?

      No he should. We're reasoning like RIAA, she's a fucking anti-american communist pirate mooch and it would be only fair to give her the death sentence.

      Or we could just applaud that this isn't true -- yet.

    I remember standing in line behind a woman at the library who was being told by the librarian that she couldn't check out any more books. She had checked out (and still had) at least 100 items from the library. This is pretty awesome though. A few years back I realized that I was not reading enough and I promised myself that I would utilize my public library more. I've gotten out of the habit since I moved back to Oregon. Need to get back into the habit.

      I think a lot of people forget about their public library. Everyone goes to Borders or Barnes and Noble, pick out a bunch of books, goes to the cafe, drink coffee, and leave the books in a pile on the table. Libraries usually have a lot of the latest stuff. I was amazed at all the latest DVDs they had, movies and TV series. The computer book section can usually be a little outdated but you can find a few recent titles. That lady does need to get out more though. 12 books a week since 1946!

    Now, why can't we borrow CDs and DVDs from the library also?

      In the State of Washington, you can borrow CD's and DVD's and download audiobooks, music, videos, etc.
