When Composers & Fans Meet — Deus Ex ReMix

djpretzel writes "OverClocked ReMix has just posted its first collaboration between a game composer and a fan/remixer — Alexander Brandon (Unreal, Deus Ex, Tyrian) teamed up with artist/judge Big Giant Circles (Jimmy Hinson) for a ReMix of 'The Synapse (Hong Kong Streets)' from Deus Ex. The mix is freely available, alongside an interview with Brandon that covers his long history in VGM, from the tracker/demoscene up to his latest work on Dust: An Elysian Tail."

    The original game Deus Ex is vastly overrated. But don't take my word for it, download the free demo.

    On the other hand, Daikatana can make anything look good.

    We're just 6 months away from the 10 year anniversary of the Daikatana debacle. With the current economic situation, it's time to stop the greed, stupidity and phoniness.

      Hmmm. Seeing as how I've replayed Deus Ex more that any other game, I'd have to disagree with you. I still have it on my hard drive, in fact. Perhaps you're thinking of its sequel, Invisible War?

      Overrated? If anything it was underrated. It never got that much press and only one low-budget sequel. The only reason you could call it overrated now is because it's become a cult classic of sorts. And sure, the graphics look dated now, but it's still one of the most cohesive open-ended stories I've ever played. The gameplay is an acquired taste, but is very deep and satisfying if you can get into it.

    For those who aren't into the scene:

    OverClock Remix is a site that hosts remixes, mostly of video game soundtracks. This particular remix is special in that the composer of the original soundtrack helped with the remix. This one has a gritty electronica feel to it.

    i'd love a modern engine, higher rez textures and more polygon redo of the original game, the sequel was horrible, but the original game is truly epic.
