Man Sells Bottled Ghosts In Online Auction

If you're in the market for a couple of ghosts trapped in vials of holy water, online auction site TradeMe has a listing for you. The seller claims the vials contain spirits that were exorcised from his home. Bidding has reached $NZ410 ($284), and has generated quite a list of comments ranging from how to get rid of the ghosts, to the ethics of selling a captured immortal essence. From the article: "The seller claims that one spirit belongs to a man who died in the house in the 1920s. 'We have had no (paranormal) activity since they were bottled on July 15, 2009,' the seller said. 'So I believe they are in the bottles.'"

      Well lessee...I got something physical we can put in a jar and sell to dualists as spirit energy.

    Well, neither have I. Nor did I before that :P. Man, this guy is either really stupid or really smart (I'm guessing smart). And those buyers are all just plain stupid.

      Why is it blue? Because the only "spirit" in these bottles is Blue Curacao!

    Spirits have been known to escape from their bottles during shipping.

    Oh, and I have some elephant repellent for sale, cheap! Ever since I started using it, there have been zero elephant sightings in my neighborhood!

      Even if they did escape, surely they would leave some sort of mark or essence in the water, right? Actually, perhaps the seller could dilute a bottle with a few Olympic-sized swimming pools of water and sell it as homeopathic ghost water!

    Ghosts are interesting things for scientists to confront.

    - No one seems to notice we never learn anything new-and-real from a ghost.

    - Ghosts only seem to be generated when there's a good story to tell. Rain, by contrast, couldn't care LESS if it's falling into a pond, or into a bucket of sodium.

    - No progress is ever made with them. They can't tell you a story, they can't reveal pirate treasure, or sit down to tea.

    Point: Either they're made every time, or they're not made at all- they're something else.

    Ghosts are, in fact, signs of a hidden intelligence. But they're not what you think. They're a distraction, period. People waste their entire lives on ghosts; they've been distracted.

    But since scientists will no longer follow the quest into places such as the Bible, I suppose we'll never know *why* they do this, and remain superstitious like cavemen.

      Unless the particular ghost you're talking about is holy, I'm not sure what the bible has to do with any of this. Now, if you could find a way to bottle the holy spirit and maybe use it to power a lightbulb, that's a technology worth patenting!

    "Man" sells bottled ghosts? Wrong. Slack journalism, just jumping to assumptions. It was a woman -- Avie Woodbury --and they sold for NZ$2800. How do I know? She was interviewed on telly yesterday.
