Nuclear Bunkers For Sale On eBay

JimLynch writes "The British government scattered bunkers around the island during the Cold War, so that scientists hidden underground could track the spread of radiation in case the nuclear bombs started falling. Now, if you're interested in a two-room underground getaway spot in the middle of nowhere, with a chemical toilet, you can bid for one online for as little as $4200."

    For $30,000 US you could have a new one constructed in your yard that would have more rooms and modern conveniences like A TOILET!

    They may also serve as a stopgap shelter during the upcoming zombie invasions.

    Could perhaps make for a nice base structure for radio/cellphone towers, if they're situated correctly?

      A lot of the original sites (approximately 1700) were sold to cellphone companies, mostly because they were situated on hilltops in the middle of nowhere. Generally the cellphone companies didn't use the bunker, they were just bought for the surrounding land.

      It's not a warning, it says "Wipe your feet!", some moron tried to be funny. The picture, of course, is not related to the submission, it's not even of a bunker, looks more like a potato storage.

      My Russian is pathetic, I saw something that vaguely resembled 'vnimanie' and had an exclamation point, and went with it.

    They were operated by the Royal Observer Corps and originally existed in WW2 to report the flight paths of enemy plans back to HQ. During the Cold War the focus changed and more posts were added and the bunker network was created - approximately 1600 were built across the UK.
