Human Sexuality Class Includes Live Demo

Hugh Pickens writes writes "The Charlotte Observer reports that students at Northwestern University observed a naked woman being penetrated by a sex toy performed in front of about 100 students in psychology professor John Michael Bailey's human sexuality class to demonstrate use of a sex toy and female orgasm. 'Both Professor Bailey and myself gave them five or six warnings about what was about to happen and it would be graphic,' says Ken Melvoin-Berg, co-owner of Weird Chicago Tours. The woman undressed and got on stage with her male partner, who used a device that looks like a machine-powered saw with a phallic object instead of a blade. An Evanston police spokesman said Northwestern police would be responsible for determining whether the demonstration violated any local ordinances as a University spokesman said the issue has not been raised. 'It is probably something I will remember for the rest of my life,' says senior Justin Smith. 'I can't say that about my Econ 202 class.' Bailey says it is too early to say whether he regretted the demonstration, for which attendance was optional but, 'I certainly have no regrets concerning Northwestern students, who have demonstrated that they are open-minded grownups rather than fragile children.'"

I wonder if I can get a university credit for my browser history. I've seen that very same demonstration on numerous sites with diverse participants.

Give humanity another, oh, say 500 years, and maybe we'll be able to talk about sex (pretty much THE most natural and fundamentally important element of human behavior) without piling on various combinations of shame, embarrassment, disgust, guilt and anything else negative we can manage.

Who knows? Another 500 years after that, maybe we'll be able to talk about taking a shit without giggling or sneering.

Hm. Better post this as AC. Too embarrassing to have it on my public record that I commented on something with "sex" in the title. Ew.

Yeah, and maybe in this crazy future there will be prime time TV shows that talk about sex all the time, and it will be the highest grossing show on television. And maybe one of the actors will start acting a little weird, prompting prime-time news reports about his esoteric sexual escapades.

Stop projecting. Just because you're ashamed doesn't mean the rest of us are, and it is nobody's fault but your own if you do feel ashamed to talk about it because someone might disapprove. So long as people find farts funny, people will giggle and snicker about sex. Just fucking deal with it and stop whining.

I was 17 when I started college. Unless he checked IDs for everyone there, they may be able to bring up charges for allowing minors to be present at this demonstration. Other than that, I don't see any problem with consensual viewing of explicit material.
