Boy Hospitalized After Doing Punishment Push-Ups

In another example of why kids should stop playing video games and go outside once in a while, a 13-year-old Detroit boy was hospitalized for 7 days after doing 100 push-ups as punishment for running in the hall. From the article: "The day after the incident the teen says his arm swelled to double its normal size, so his mother took him to the emergency room. The medical papers she showed Action News says the diagnosis is Rhabdomyolysis, which is a break down of the muscles, often caused by over exertion. It can lead to kidney problems and blood in the urine and Donell's mom says he has had that."

To be perfectly fair, 100 push ups is a heck of a lot. I don't know fit people would would happily do 100 push ups, and getting a 13 year old child to do so is negligent and dangerous.

News for nerds this aint, but sickening it is.

100 push ups is nowhere near enough to cause Rhabdo. Maybe if he was being forced to do this multiple times, or otherwise overexert himself for days and days on end, but I can't see a single 100 push up set causing a full blown case out of nowhere. Rhabdo is usually diagnosed in crazy hardcore workout enthusiasts who don't know when to stop.

100 pushups forced on a 13 year old? that's just cruel what if they had a medical condition, and they're still young and growing i swear you shouldn't strain your muscles like that while you're not even fully grown. This punishment is wrong and should be removed, it's hospitalised the kid for god sake they should just give him extra work or isolate him for whatever has been wrongly done.
He's 13 his muscles and body are still growing so forcing someone to buff themselves up like this as punishment is well, just harsh. In my opinion it shouldn't be allowed
