Google Guitar Doodle Song Gallery
itwbennett writes "Now in its second day of productivity destruction, Google's Guitar Doodle is still making music, beautiful music. Here's a roundup of some of YouTube's best, from beginner favorite Seven Nation Army to an ambitious version of Paint it Black, and, yes, Stairway to Heaven."
The sound that comes from that doodle is an insult to Les Paul.
freebird!!!!
If what I just said sounded like a troll, it was probably just a failed attempt at humor.
Play Freebird!
Google lets you record them and then play them back via links... and they put together a gallery of crappy YouTube captures?
Size of main page:
111.421 bytes
Number of inline elements:
172 (3.563.734 bytes)
That's with ad blocking turned on.
Without it, the page is over 4 megabytes.
Jesus...
I don't know about others, but for me Google's homepage does not have the guitar anymore. It also doesn't appear in Google's history for doodles.
But, through some long-winded way that included Facebook, I found this link that has it. Enjoy.
The Google Doodle was in honor of Les Paul, who would have been 96 yesterday. For the handfull of slashdotters who don't know Les Paul was one of the inventors of the solid body electric guitar, multitrack recording, and many other inventions still used in the recording industry. And if that weren't enough he was an excellent musician as well.
Any insufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology.
...until the RIAA lawyers show up with the take-down notices.
Heaven forbid if someone should do "Happy Birthday"[*] - a SWAT team might show up instead.
[*] Can I use those words on Slashdot without getting fined?

I can see the strings vibrate when I pick them, and when playing back, but no sound with Chrome on Ubuntu. I kind of thought there should be, but figured I just didn't get it. Now I see I did get it, but didn't get it.
Suppose I could debug, but that would take time from Slashdot posting . . .
I am not a crackpot.
The doodle can record songs, then you can play them back in realtime in your browser. Does anyone have a link to an index of real-time recordings?
Until someone comes out with an ASIO driver for Firefox, I'm sticking to Guitar Queero.

You know, if the RIAA and other collecting agencies start acting like assholes as always, and start taking down user created contend up and down, maybe more people would get a glance at how terrible the current copyright regime is. Since common people never create anything, and just consume, they never get to see how bad things really are.
If that's "some of the best", I'd hate to hear any of the worst. Most of the songs were virtually unrecognizable..
Some people keep having the autocomplete kick in when they start using the keyboard. Here is how to get the keyboard to work.
There is a spot just under the strings, to the left of the record button. If you mouse over it, your mouse pointer will change to a cursor. It is a relatively decent size area, so you have a decent area to click. Click here.
This is essentially the spot where the widget is for the playback dealie bopper.
This works in Chrome, IE8, and Firefox.
Google have given it a permanent home here http://www.google.com/logos/2011/lespaul.html
Here's one of my Doodle songs: http://youtu.be/5tPoLqSQNmw
Annoying. Google in my homepage and new tab page. Every time I open a new window I end up playing a string or two over the speakers. This is also at work.
... when Keith Moon's birthday rolls around, Google can do a drum set. I've been dying to drive my cow-orkers completely nuts with a good drum solo.
Have gnu, will travel.
I don't understand the layout (maybe for ease in strumming chords with your mouse?), and there are only 10 notes you can play, limited to GMaj. Maybe Google didn't want people recording a bunch of atonal crap or something, but that doesn't stop me from doing this: http://tinyurl.com/3z5wvjz
Here's one of our doodle songs, the wife and i worked on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwhfgaluniY
Since there's no mention of Les Paul in a lot of the news relating to the doodle, here he is. Thank you Les. I have proudly owned several guitars with your name and they have given me countless moments of joy, contemplation and reverence. I hope the other side of the rainbow is treating you well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NdSU03jnUw

Google song hopefully that will get around the lameness filter
Thanks to file sharing, I purchase more CDs
Thanks to the RIAA, I buy them used...
Really some rather tone deaf incorrect choice of notes in "Paint it Black" and others. How can you call it "not bad"?

Even though many of these doodles are there to surreptitiously showcase standards-based alternatives to Adobe Flash, this doodle actually requires Adobe Flash to play the audio.
