i attended the OC Mini Maker Faire. It was less then impressive. A bunch of 3d printers, a mobile seesaw, motorized cupcakes and some dude who made an impressive looking R2-D2. So impressive i couldnt help but think "If this guy has this much talent, couldnt he make his own IP instead of ripping off Lucas?"

I would like to attend a Maker Fair. That's like a Maker Faire, but for straight people. Not sure why the organizers feel the need to imply their sexual orientation in the name anyway, it shouldn't be relevant.
I'm an American. I love this country and the freedoms that we used to have.

Not for nothing, but did these guys who call themselves "makers" and run around acting like they invented something ever hear of a "tool and die maker"? Or maybe a "machinist"?
And seriously, when you add the "e" after "fair" it really makes you sound fruity. I realize you think it makes you look all 19th century and Babbage-y and everything, but honestly, nobody cares about your 3D-printed backscratcher.
How about you drop the Olde English "faire" and get busy making something that people need instead of another steampunk costume for your chihuahua? Your parents are getting tired of paying for your hobby while you search for your place in the world.

Geeks aren't meant to be together in a community (not in real life anyway). They work better isolated, which means nobody of intelligence actually goes to a hacker space. Maker Faire is an exihibition of unintelligent people pretending to be smart because they can build their own giant spider robot. Will it wash my car? No, so nobody cares.
Anyone who goes or participates in these events should be made to work at Mcdonalds, where they belong.
At some point, we stopped doing World's Fairs, where everybody got together and celebrated civilization and culture...the ultimate World's Fair was the 1894 Colombian Exposition in Chicago. The Maker Faire is really the only thing left that remotely resembles these, in my travels. Of course, there's Epcot, but Epcot is really a museum of World's Fairs.
Anyhow, I've been to two in Austin, and one in San Mateo...they are truly engineer-geek heaven.
If your bitterest enemies are people who hack the heads off civilians, then I would say you're doing something right.
It sucked because you didn't submit your awesome project thing which is surely cooler than any of the junk those losers came up with. And better-documented. Right?
