DC Entertainment Bringing Batman Experience To Gear VR and Oculus Rift

muterobert writes It's been announced that Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, and OTOY are collaborating to recreate the iconic Batcave from Batman: The Animated Series in virtual reality for Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Rift. OTOY is providing what they call "holographic video" technology to render the scene in a way that's true to the Batcave of the classic 90s show.

There was a Batman TV show in the 90's?

I thought the only Batman TV show was the campy 70's version. Or are they referring to a cartoon?

"Batman: The Animated Series" introduced the now iconic character, Harley Quinn.

Kevin Conroy has had the longest run of any actor to play Batman, 1992 to the present. In 85 episodes of Batman: TAS alone.

The robins have *ALWAYS* been a core part of the Batman Mythos.

Since the New 52, Batman had a Robin called Damian who was his biological son, trained to be a killer. The series "Batman and Robin" deals with him trying to establish a relationship with his son who has become Robin and trying to change his ways.

A huge crossover event at the moment involves Batman going against Darkseid to reclaim his sons body back.

An amazing Batman story in the 2005 was "Under the Red Hood", which deals with Jason Todd and is a continuation of "A death in the family".

Robin has almost always been present, in almost all iterations of the character. The only exception are stories set in Batman's early years before he had a Robin, stories where he is not the main character such as the Justice League stories (Robin has the Teen Titans) or stories focused on detective stories, where the story works better without Robin. These are the exception however.

It would be cooler if it would work with a regular smart-phone and google-cardboard. The cardboard version would overheat my phone, but a plastic version of the cardboard design is able to produce VR that's much more effective than I expected without enclosing the phone and creating a heat problem.

I bought this one, which lacks the magnet required by some VR apps, but works with most Android VR apps. I have not tried it with an iPhone. http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...

I also picked up a bluetooth game controller and some NFC tags to complete the package http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ... http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...

I am working on this. It is not locked to a specific platform. Google cardboard could be supported, and down the line maybe WebVR. That being said, the experience on Gear VR is beyond anything else we've tried on mobile. Gear VR I think looks even better than the DK2 for this type of content, due to the increased resolution (1080p vs. 1440p).
