Amazon Job Posting Hints At New VR Platform (thestack.com)
An anonymous reader writes: Amazon is looking to expand its business into the realms of virtual reality (VR), according to a recent job site posting looking for someone to lead the new project. The ad, posted to Amazon's Glassdoor page, is for a 'Senior Software Development Manager' who will be responsible for 'the Virtual Reality experience within Amazon Video.' The posting outlines that 'basic qualifications' must include a degree in computer science, at least 15 years of relevant experience in engineering, seven years of technical experience and an additional five years of experience as a software development manager. The job posting elaborates: 'The Virtual Reality team will explore and create the platform and interface for immersive storytelling. This will include an ingestion and playback platform for Virtual Reality experiences.'
A virtual reality Amazon brick-and-mortar store to walk around and shop in -- making the circle complete!
I'm sure they won't be short of viable candidates.
Sounds like they plan to pioneer edible VR headsets.
Facebook, Samsung, and Microsoft are already working on one, and Bezos doesn't want to feel left out.
Seriously, this seems to be Amazon MO. If at least two of their competitors come out with a new product or service (like a tablet, streaming video service, cloud storage, smartphone, etc) Amazon comes out with a cheaper version with ties into their product line.
I'm still waiting for an Amazon branded desktop operating system to complete with Mac OS and Windows... it seems like the next logical step.
With images so compelling, you can actually see the products floating right in front of you, or showing you wearing the perfect shirt, or cool smart watch. Or even driving a really cool sports cars. Imaging the marketing possibilities.

Seems that any thing would be better than what we have now.
This, except obviously the Fire Phone didn't end up being cheaper.
The Fire Phone, while flawed and not what anyone wanted, had some impressive technologies in it that shows Amazon might be able to pull off a VR system technically. Whether they'd produce something anyone wants is another question, but it'd be nice to see what they come up with.
You are not alone. This is not normal. None of this is normal.
Immersed in your own vomit, mostly likely.
Considering Amazon's responsiveness to consumer interest in changing their position on devices doing encryption, I can only think that Amazon's video VR platform will be a toolkit for producing VR porn. I guarantee that's what consumers will be wanting.
They also want 25 years of Java experience, 20 years of Ruby/Python experience, plus the ability to transmute water into wine and sheep droppings into tasty chocolate cupcakes.
