Google Quietly Phases Out 'Google Cast' Branding for TVs, Speakers (variety.com)

Google can't seem to settle for a good name for its media-streaming device. The company is changing Google Cast branding to Chromecast, it subtly announced this week on Twitter. The tech giant has been jumping around on its branding for Cast, most recently switching from Google Cast to Google Home with the release of the company's smart speaker. From a report on Variety:Google has been phasing put the 'Google Cast' branding for TVs and internet-connected loudspeakers that are compatible with Google's own Chromecast streaming adapters. Instead, the company and its partners have switched to describing these products as having "Chromecast built-in."

They've started rebranding Chromecast to Home. A couple weeks ago my Chromecast app was replaced with a 'Home' app.

It's so irritating. I don't have much occasion to go to the app unless I need to change settings or reboot a device.
They change it frequently enough, that whenever I need to find it, it's listed under a different name and I have no idea where to look.

Yeah, holy fuck, it's been what, "Chromecast", "Google Cast", and "Home" in just the past six months? And now they're changing back to "Chromecast"?

What kind of sociopath is letting the marketing department get away with this kind of abuse of the users?

I find it odd that these guys let Google put its brand on the TVs. After all, TV manufacturers gave us Viera Link, Bravia Sync, Anynet+, etc. instead of HDMI CEC.
