Xbox One's Faster, Simpler Interface is Now Available To Everyone (engadget.com)

Microsoft today announced it is releasing a major update to the Xbox One gaming console. The much-awaited update comes with a few new features and improvements such as Beam, the company's livestreaming client that does similar things as Twitch; and a faster and simpler interface. From a report on Engadget: The March update centers around a redesigned interface that's designed for speed above all else. It's quicker to perform more than a few tasks, such as finding a group to join. The revamped Guide should be much quicker, too -- it promises faster access to recent apps, background music controls and game recording. A few tweaks are designed with multitasking in mind, such as a brand new achievement tracker and a Cortana rework that puts the voice assistant into an overlay that won't disrupt what you're doing.

    Available to EVERYONE? That's amazing. Glad I don't have to buy an Xbox One. Is this perhaps a promotional item rather than news?

    Well, the Steam UI has had only 2 significant UI updates since 2003, so it wouldn't make much of a difference.

      YES!
      Microsoft also released the XboX Pro that will join a domain and the wireless now supports a RADIUS client to connect to corperate wifi.

      But they still did not add in any SNMP. so of course the network admin is still raging.

      Ehm SNMP, well maybe the have a more modern managment api, but probably not, at ,eas wpa2ebterprose and radius is a step in the right direction, and jus a question at the end, how mouch managment does a game console really need?

    Yeah, Slashdot has got that covered.

    But, that was actually available to everyone, and was about an actual change in customer form factor/platform. Nice try, though, M$ Coward.

    The new Appbox One apperating app is even appier now because it lets you app more apps while apping other apps! Only LUDDITES buy LUDDITE consoles like LUDDITE PlayStation and LUDDITE Nintendo!

    One thing that is good, is the Blu-ray bit stream audio pass through is included in this update.

    I trust my amp more than I trust the XBone to make up its mind what speakers to use when transforming a 2/5.1/6.1 to what my speakers are configured as (7.1).
    Hopefully it extends to the media player as well.
