Author of Original Petya Ransomware Publishes Master Decryption Key (bleepingcomputer.com)
An anonymous reader writes: The author of the original Petya ransomware -- a person/group going by the name of Janus Cybercrime Solutions -- has released the master decryption key of all past Petya versions. This key can decrypt all ransomware families part of the Petya family except NotPetya, which isn't the work of Janus, but is believed to be the work of a nation-state actor that targeted Ukraine. Most (original) Petya campaigns happened in 2016, and very few campaigns have been active this year. Users that had their files locked have wiped drives or paid the ransom many months before. The key will only help those victims who cloned their drives and saved a copy of the encrypted data. Experts believe that Janus released Petya's decryption key as a result of the recent NotPetya outbreak, and he might have decided to shut down his operation to avoid further scrutiny, or being accused of launching NotPetya.

To better target their social media propaganda, for one thing, either demographically or individually. There's no reason to think their analysis of US voters is any less sophisticated than the Democratic Party's, for instance, especially if the data stolen from the latter is included.
Any machines infected with Petya have either already paid the ransom, or have been wiped and restored from backup. Even if someone *DID* clone the infected/encrypted drive, the files on it will be over 6 months old. Surely, the users of those machines have gotten around all this time without those files.

Slavery only existed in the United States for 87 years (1776 to 1863), and hasn't been legal for the last 154 years. Brazil didn't end slavery until 1888, the last nation in the western hemisphere to abolish it, but it still exists in Africa and the Middle East. So why is it that US slavery is constantly being thrown around as some sort of indication of how bad the US is when no mention is made of the continued slavery elsewhere? Simple, money. People think they can get something out of it.
News flash there's not a single slave (from when slavery was legal, not current criminal enslavement) left alive in the United States, can't say that about other parts of the world. And guess what else, nearly every single nation on the planet has some form of slavery in their past. Whites were enslaved just as much as non-whites - see Arab, Ottoman and Barbary slave trade histories. Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians. Likely every lineage was a slaver or enslaved or both at some point in history. Hell the so-called "native" Americans were known to take slaves of other tribes.
So American blacks don't have the only grievance regarding slavery, and the US isn't and wasn't the worst of the slavers. Original slaves in the Mediterranean areas were white mostly from Russia, but they had problems dealing with the heat. That's when African tribes started selling other Africans into slavery since they could handle the hard work and the climate, with Timbuktu a major trading hub for them. But it seems that the only ones who regularly whine about it are those he feel like they are entitled to something, or try to use it to guilt others into giving them handouts.
But let's not take responsibility for our own lives and choices, no lets instead blame it on the fact that your great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was sold into slavery by his neighbor in Africa and shipped to the US.
