The Next iPhones, Apple Watch Leak Ahead of Apple's Event (9to5mac.com)
Moments after Apple sent out invitations to its latest media event on September 12, 9to5Mac published a first look at Apple's 2018 iPhones and new Apple Watch Series 4. Apple is expected to unveil new 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch iPhones that will both be called iPhone XS. From the report: We also believe iPhone XS will come in a new gold color option not previously offered on the new design. Apple leaked its own gold version of the iPhone X through the FCC, but it has not been available to purchase. Other details are still to be determined, but we can report with certainty that iPhone XS will be the name, the OLED model will come in two sizes including a larger version, and each will be offered in gold for the first time. As for the Apple Watch, the biggest change is the all-new edge-to-edge display. From the report: Apple has been rumored to be working on ~15% bigger displays for both sizes of Apple Watch -- that rumor has been confirmed in the images we've discovered. As expected, Apple has achieved this by dramatically reducing the bezel size around the watch display. In addition to taking the display edge-to-edge, we're also looking at a brand new watch face capable of showing way more information than the current faces offered. The analog watch face shows a total of eight complications around the time and within the clock hands. Also seen in the image is a new hole between the side button and Digital Crown, likely an additional microphone, and compatibility with what appears to be current watch bands. Both the Digital Crown and side button appear modified from the current Apple Watch models as well.
I was really surprised the new models had only five notches - the fact the new ones are solid gold and cost around 100k each was pretty much expected though.

someone didn't think that name through very well.
wish stebe was not a fucking religious idiot about he own health and still live to make better phone and fire bad phone people
SuperKendall lies again, incrementing the SuperKendall Lieometer by 1.
Even your leaks are boring.
Metal on one side and glass on the other? How close was I?
eXtra Shit for apple-tards...lol
I come here for the Apple jokes in the comment section...

Damn. I read that headline and immediately my prick started twitching. Talk about an Apple hardon! It wasn't long before I was beating my meat like it was going out of style. Nothing, and I mean Nothing gets my prick spewing like Apple announcements. Damn. My keyboard, my screen, everything is coated with my sticky paste. Whew! No doubt about it, I'm a charter member of the Apple Fanboiz Club. Cum see me sometime at the BOF!
Just getting my prediction in.
When all you have is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a thumb.

6.5 Inches = 16.5 cm
An inch is 2,54 cm
Symptom of nothing safe to report in the news. Imagine hyping to the same extent Apple gets, the release of the new colors of the 2019 Ford F150 pickup truck.
After 10 years of phone models, the few rabid fans become much fewer.
Don't know why this rates any kind of article on /. anymore.
We've long since hit peak phone, whereby the tech in the existing models satisfies everything we want and more, and we don't lust after any new features. Now Apple is getting desperate, and the desperation is showing. *waits for share price to crash down hard back to reality*
I sure hope that the SE form factor continues to exist.

No. No they are not.
Complications are complex mechanical great systems used in mechanical watches to display other items like Moon phase, stored power, etc..
It is not a name for 'displayed on a watch face'
But they are trying to misuse it to sound more 'expensive watch' like.
No. They are just digital displays.
Apple who don't produce any value phones, and only produce a small range of products...because money. Have chosen that their expensive bottom end will be designed for their dwindling developing world market, and they have decided needs to be supported with a large screen LCD with dual sim, rather than those in first world that want an iteration to the iPhone 4...because logo.
For anything other than a device for only making phone calls, despite any discussion about pocket and hand sizes larger screens are better for on screen information; The things a smart phones do well. ...but if you insist on a small phone, other phone companies have a range of new phones with modern SOC.

There is a slowing down of the market, but saturation is a greater cause. The average selling price is actually rising due in part to exciting developments in the mid-range and a more affordable high end phone from other phone companies. The iPhone has for a long time hit a peak market share, and its not getting the Android switchers, its dwindling Chinese market is in trouble.
Apple is not desperate by any stretch, but its shares are volatile. It latest strategy of producing a large screen LCD with dual sim as its cheaper option, and I suspect strongly like the iPad mini allows the vendors to make a good profit from them, for something in real terms almost indistinguishable from their more expensive offerings.
I think its a interesting strategy; Different than producing a plastic or smaller phone. If I was confident that it would be successful I would move my shares to Apple now.

Oh that's not even remotely true. Here's just a few of the things I'd like to see in an iPhone just off the top of my head. (and I use an iPhone)
1) Proper file management
2) Improved integration/cooperation with other devices (especially cameras or PC but even among apple devices could be better)
3) A bigger battery version
4) Modular OEM cases for features not universally needed like bigger batteries, headphone jacks, SD cards, proper GPS, holding styluses, better camera, etc
5) Stylus support with apps that are actually useful
6) USB-C instead of Lightning
7) Better and more useful Augmented Reality features
8) Speech recognition that actually is useful (Siri by and large sucks)
And with a little time I'm sure I could come up with a much much longer list. The iPhone is a very good and useful device but there is a LOT Apple could still do to make it better. Same with every other phone manufacturer. There is still a huge amount of room for improvement in smartphones and tablets.
Now Apple is getting desperate, and the desperation is showing.
That sounds like wishful thinking of an Apple hater. While I'll be the first to say that Apple isn't getting everything right, there is no evidence of desperation or a major decline in iPhone revenue in the near future.

Apple's stock price is in reality shockingly reasonable given the profitability of the company. The P/E is 19.52 as I type this which is actually quite modest compared to many of their tech peers. Unless their profitability falls off a cliff, your thesis that their stock is overpriced is not consistent with the actual facts.
I like your list. Those things are already available to other manufactures...and add bulk, something Apple/Media have made their faithful believe is bad, like specifications, and openness, and repairablity...even cost!?(you even defend revenue. Hell their lack of a headphone jack for poor quality speakers; They have made travelling on public transport a nightmare.
You are right. I do think desperate is too strong a word, but compelling iterations are not comping out of Apple. I should have bought shares every time a fanatic like you called someone a hater...or posted about being DOOMED, when stockholders got skittish and thought that Apple is a phone company not a Brand.
The problem is that Brand has not got that same kind of pull and is suffering in China, and its land grab strategy, as it evolves into a gouging 30% software monopolistic retailer and default search engine seller. Its attempt with small phones, and plastic phones has been disliked by the faithful...Is a dual sim, LCD Phone gamble going to move that needle. ...they sell a watch I think.
We're all going to find out what's what next week, why do we care now?
We can't wait one week? Nothing is going to change between now and then.
But thefalsetimmycook is still in the lead.
It's TheFakeTimCook.
If you're going to bash me, at least have the decency to get my name right! ;-)
More rectangular slabs of glass, metal & plastic that are WAY overpriced.
Dude,
I like your list.
Thanks though it could be quite a lot longer. Apple makes good products but they are not even close to perfect.
Those things are already available to other manufactures...and add bulk, something Apple/Media have made their faithful believe is bad, like specifications, and openness, and repairablity...even cost!?
To be fair, if those things really are important then some other company should be able to eat Apple's lunch by providing them.
you even defend revenue
Not sure what you mean here. I've explained WHY Apple does some of the things they do. I don't particularly like some of Apple's tactics but I understand why they do what they do. That should not be confused with defending what they do.
Hell their lack of a headphone jack for poor quality speakers; They have made travelling on public transport a nightmare.
I understand why some people want headphone jacks but the problem is blown way out of proportion. A "nightmare"? Really? Isn't that just a touch hyperbolic? If Apple doesn't make the product you want then buy a phone that does have the features you want. There are plenty of very good Android phones out there. The iPhone happens to suit my particular needs pretty well but if your needs are different then get what fits you. You be you.
You are right. I do think desperate is too strong a word, but compelling iterations are not comping out of Apple.
Not compelling to you maybe but Apple is still selling ludicrous numbers of these things so the evidence is clear that they are compelling to a lot of people. The real question is whether Apple can keep improving the products fast enough to maintain or grow revenue further. There is evidence that the smartphone market at least in the US has matured and reached something close to saturation. That means further growth in that market becomes a zero sum game. It's going to be challenging in the long term for Apple to remain a step ahead in perpetuity. And given their current size, growth is going to be REALLY hard. To just grow 5% they have to generate the entire amount of business eBay does from scratch. And it has to have some rather ludicrous margins. There just aren't that many possible products that can move the needle for a company the size of Apple.
thought that Apple is a phone company not a Brand.
Apple has a strong brand but that is not what they are. Apple fundamentally is a software company and people forget or misunderstand this routinely. Their hardware is just the pretty box they bundle with it to sell it to you. Nobody buys a brand if the underlying products suck - or at least they don't buy the products for very long. People often think that Apple is a hardware company but the mistake in this logic is that you cannot be something you do not make and they do not (mostly) make their own hardware - they outsourced that. The thing they do keep in house is software and product design. Since they don't actually sell product design that means their business is really software. Think about it. You could easily put Windows on a Mac or Android on an iPhone since the underlying hardware is near identical. The reason people buy Apple products and pay a premium for them is based in what is different about them and the main difference is the software.
