China's 'Game of Thrones' Fans Try Torrents, VPNs For Uncensored Episodes (scmp.com)
"Winter is coming for fans of the hit television series Game of Thrones, with the final season set to hit screens around the world after a near two-year hiatus," reports the South China Morning Post. There were 96 million views for a discussion about the show on China's Twitter-like platform Weibo.
"But those watching inside China are also bracing for the chill of censorship." In recent years, Chinese authorities have ramped up the pressure on the television and film industries to clean up content they deem vulgar or politically incorrect. This has led to some serious censorship of foreign productions. Recent examples include the removal of scenes of smashed heads and bare flesh from the American superhero film Logan, and the apparent manipulation of a scene in Oscar-winner The Shape of Water so that a naked woman is made to appear to be wearing clothes...

Tencent Video holds the exclusive distribution rights for the show in China, leaving one Weibo user to post "I'm begging Father Tencent not to censor too much, thank you."

I am amazed anyone would have the shortsightedness to post comments like this under the current chinese regime. I mean holding views like 'I would like to see more nudity or violence' does not really factor in to the acceptable cultural and personal values that the current Chinese administration wishes to cultivate in its citizens. Perhaps these people are due for reeducation.

Just wait until the Chinese authorities learn about this thing called Chinese history. That reminds me of how so many people were upset with Christian parents bringing their children to watch "Passion of the Christ". Then there's the thing called "The Children's Bible". Of course, large parts of the Bible are really Adults Only. In fact, rating the Bible (and most history books, for that matter) could have all sorts of interesting positive (and negative) consequences.
Seriously, though, that's the one aspect of Games of Thrones I can appreciate: it at least remotely tries to depict the vulgarness that is, well, life. Makes me wish Disney would take a similar stand, given the vulgarity that was the basis of most folk tales that are the basis of Disney's most cherished works. Too bad no body with the money and the lawyers--*cough*Lucas*cough*--is willing to pull out that "parody" and put it on Youtube. That would be, quite honestly, such awesomeness that it'd outshine any way in which Disney could possibly fuck over what will likely be--*cough*Star Wars going down the toilet*cough*.
Once the "final" season is over, I guess I will probably binge the whole thing.
I think I have the first seven seasons on my NAS someplace.
I'm also kind of surprised nobody in China can buy the DVD/Blu-Rays, rip them and sell them in a nice open-air market like they do with everything else.

As filthy Slashdot finds another story to demonise China, the neo-liberal warmongering outlet ignores, once again, the declared intent by all three major political parties in the UK to bring in laws censoring the Internet way beyond anything imagined by China.
1) Britain introduces by law compulsory filters on all Internet ISPs, switched on by default.
2) Britain declares greatest censorship of sexual material on the Internet in Human History, and promises to roll out solution in early 2018. Plan is posponed while a far more draconian plan is put in motion.
3) The 'porn license' plan (where literally every adult Brit has to get an official gov license to see massively gov censored sexual material online) was meant for Apr 1 2019 (yes really) but got delayed again with Brexit as the excuse.
4) In reality the delay was to allow a vastly more Orwellian net censorship system to be rolled out, where the gov only allows access to sites on a WHITELIST, and all user input to net sites has to go through Google created filter algorithms to determine whether the input is 'wrongthink' and must be reported/banned.
Guess why Slashdot chooses NOT to discuss this here?
The UK death sentence for the free net will be copied by almost every nation EXCEPT the USA. The USA has its 'Constitution' which is a unique mechanism of societal manipulation designed to perfect Humanity's worst war mongering state. The ILLUSION of freedom in the USA is an essential component of the military industrial complex.
But outside the USA, the internet will die- converted into government determined whitelists, where only officially licenced sites can be used, and those approved sites required to pre-censor all sheeple input.
Recall how the propaganda arm of Britain's intelligence agencies, the BBC, fronted the campaign to BAN all user comment forums. When the BBC had comments, its daily lies was torn to shreds by comments giving chapter and verse on the current lies, and those the BBC had used in the past to assist war atrocities by the Britsih government.
Orwellian propaganda hardly works if informed people can comment on the propaganda in real time.
As for the usual statist filth who will try the distraction excuse of VPNs, well Tony Blair's protege, Putin (yes, Blair ensured Putin was protected from EU wrath during his early rise to power when his chechnya war of literal genocide would have drawn the deadly ire of the major EU powers if not for Blair's actions), has declared that all VPNs operating in Russia have to deny access to sites on Russia's blacklist. Britain (and other nations) will require the same of VPNs operating in THEIR nations- a very simply way to cripple VPN usefulness for those hoping to bypass state censorship.
The British parliament has openly declared that their no.1 concern with the Internet is the unfettered ability for NOBODIES to speak to large numbers of fellow Humans. In other words, the British parliament has INVERTED the freedom of speech idea with the rule that all ordinary Humans must be denied open acess to significant numbers of other people.
Google has been touting its NSA sponsored 'anti-wrongthink' upload filters for several years now, and a massive number of forums test all uploads against Google's filters. This site doesn't- Reddit doesn't- but for the same reason America has a Consititution that SEEMS good.
But almost all small 'political' forums do- meaning that a sh-t ton of the 'wrong' type of sheeple thought never makes it online. The EU and UK intend ALL user input goes through filters with far wider 'wrongthink' scope.

The dog, called 'Strawberry', couldn't escape the brutal abuse as it was locked in a cage. This dog is a Shibe Inu.
