Intel(/s/Intel/HP) will use copper, sort of...

Intel expects to use copper and aluminium interconnects in its upcoming Merced (... or is that McKinley?) processor. Intel expects this to cost less since aluminium is cheaper than copper. Funny, I thought the cost of copper was not the metal, but the new technology required to do it -- could it be they are only using copper on the top layer?
