Flat Screens and Linux

Andrew Caird writes in with this question: "Is anyone using flat panel displays with Linux? Using what X server and settings? At what resolution and scan rate? Are there any tricks to it? (I mean, any more than are usually required for setting up monitors under X.) What brands are people using? With what video cards (analog or digital)?"
