Anyway it was a site with pictures of roadkill. It was a gag site. TRU shot it down quickly with their legal scare tactics.

The owner of ToysRGus seems to think that the case is weak, but the names are too similar and I have to agree with ToysRus. If it were "gustoys.com" it wouldn't even be an issue (that domain is available, btw). More than likely "toysAREgus.com" would be acceptable as well if you were nice to them. It's the fact that TOYSRgUS at a glance could be confused. Sure it's not as cute but this isn't a fight that can be won.
The owner of ToysRGus states that ToysRus is claiming ownership of anything with ___US.COM and that's not correct. ToyRus is claiming its trademark covers anything using ___RUS and if it goes to court they will win.
Examples of this are the "for dummies" books - several other companies tried to release books with those words in their titles and lost. An even better example is one in which Radio Shack successfully sued AutoShack several years ago for trademark infringement because consumers were confusing the two and Radio Shack won so they changed their name to AutoZone.
ToysRGus is much too similar and could very easily be confused. Save yourself some trouble. Change the name.
Hope ToysRUs wins

So you're saying that if someone trying to go to toysrus.com accidently typed toysrgus.com, they're going to be confused and think it's Toys "R" Us? Have you even gone to the Gus' site?
I don't think this confusion will be made. That is, unless they can't tell the difference between left and right; in which case, they shouldn't be crusin' the web in the first place.

Already pointed out, but Gus' domain ends in _RGUS, not __RUS. This point is moot.
In a nutshell, TRU has no legal leg to stand on and are using scare tactics that won't work.

If they are punishing toysrgus for using a similar name, why not check out all the other sites that do it. Click here to run a netcraft.com search for sites ending in rus.com!
Maybe Microsoft will do these things.
The Linux community has very little legal ground to stand on to try to stop it if they do.
"Linux" is trademarked. Microsoft can't steal it and they know it and they won't try.
"Lenux", and "Opened Source" are not. (At least not by the same people as "Linux" and "Open Source", respectively).
If Microsoft grabs these names, so what? Will it confuse anybody? I doubt it. Will it diminish
genuine "Linux". No way!
Does toysrgus fool anyone? I doubt it. Does it diminish Toys 'R' Us' business or profits in any way? Certianly not!
After reading the letters on Gus' site....
The Toys R Us lawyer keeps mentioning the
"R US" family of trademarks.
Yet I do not see an "R US" anywhere in the domain in question. I see "RGUS"
It could just as easily be toyryouguys.com
or toysrme.com or toysrconstantinechernenko.com
or hell, even dildosrgus, or ak47srgus, or watermelonsrgus.
Bottom line as I see it:
WHERE IS THE "R US" IN TOYSRGUS.COM ?
Sure, it *sounds* similar.
But so do Brontosaurus, and Sharp Zaurus, Semi-porous.
... and the outcome can still be affected tho. So, I'm glad that stuff like this gets posted.
I suspect it was /., or the plug was pulled (again)
