Guest Tiler's are back
Sorry its been so long, but I've been busy keeping the guys
over at themes.org busy with
various things. This weeks Guest is Seth Spitzer of Netscape.
He has some interesting things to say
during this weeks interview.
Don't forget to check out last weeks Guest Tiler which was about the
whole new "Yellow Dog Linux" distro. hoping the /. effect doesn't
kill t.o :) We get almost as much traffic as Rob does... its just
spread out over the whole site. I wonder if slashdot could hold up
to the slashdot effect..... hmmmm.
Rob, you have an extra apostrophe in the title of this article. "Tiler's" should not be possessive.
I really like that "Yellow Dog" logo.
The authors never brag about Freshmeat -> People love it
The authors never brag about Slashdot on other sites -> People love it.
Authors of themes.org _are_ braging about their site on other sites -> People is really starting to dislike it.
Why can't themes.org see that too much commercial (VA-Reseach) is nothing but pure anoying, and has a negative effect on peoples goodwill.
By definition, /. must experience /. effect every day. So, I'd :)
the
say it's been holding up pretty
well so far, modulo database quirks
of course it could.
i mean...... __think__ about it.
Wow trae keep us updated on the ground breaking news. Slashdot goes through the slashdot effect everyday. Your site is lame I am very sick of reading your promotions of it.
I happen to like t.o, and am happy to hear that the guest tilers are finally back. If you're not into that kind of stuff, then don't read it. Just think of how much of Rob's harddrive space we would save if we didn't get 10 "I don't like t.o" posts every time OctobrX submitted a Slashdot.org article.
Keep up the good work Trae!
Today's grammar and punctuation lesson: The apostrophe.
Tiler's -- possessive
Tilers -- plural

If I want to read news about themes.org, I will go to themes.org. I don't, so I don't. Not that I could read any news at themes.org anyway, what with the hideous layout and fourth-grade-level spelling and grammar. Spare us, OK?
P.S. I've always thought themes.org (I refuse to be 3l33t and call it "t.o") was out of hand, but propaganda.themes.org proves it. WTF is this JFK shit? Oh, wait... there it is... Bowie "ArCtAnGenT" Poag strikes again. Hmmmm. Maybe he'll work the same "magic" for themes.org that he did for the GNOME UI group and, what was it, "InSight"...? Losers.
Yet another t.o article pops up on /. Now, if OctoberX were posting article on other subjects, and he weren't the one posting about t.o, all would be fine and dandy, but no, he's not doing anything but advertising his website. It's starting to suck already.
In Soviet Russia, Jesus asks: "What Would You Do?"
Pssst. Rob doesn't give slashdot admin access to people he doesn't want to post. If he didn't want me to post then he would pull the access. I only post once a month or so...
I think I know who is behind most of the AC hoopla over me and its lame that the other people here have to be spurred on by your crap.
Some people can be sooo kruel.
(Did I spell that last name right?)
Trae
C'mon, I think you guys are over reacting about this a little. I've seen many things on /. that I'm not interested in that have appeared many times, even in one month, and I didn't find any reason to jump and down and cry about it.
Pssst. Rob doesn't give slashdot admin access to people he doesn't want to post. If he didn't want me to post then he would pull the access. I only post once a month or so...
Well, fine. Let's take a look at "OctobrX"'s record, eh?
The "once a month or so" assessment is fair enough. Two posts in November, but he took December off. One post each in January and February. Stuff before November is offline now, but it's fair to say the posts are infrequent.
Now, let's look at the content of those posts. Of the four posts, only one isn't an advertisement for themes.org (it's a piece about the new Qt license.) Otherwise, all of the other posts are about whatever 3l33t update they've made to "t.o" (as the l33t kids call it) this week. As previously mentioned, older posts are gone, but it's probably fair to say that at least 75% of the posts made before November were plugging themes.org as well.
Look, Trae or OctoberX or whatever you want to be called today, themes.org is good for what it is. I, myself, have downloaded and used a few themes from the site. If you want themes, it's a good place to go. I think we can agree on that. But, dude, you've already got plenty of exposure. You've got links from window manager pages. You've got a front page link from Slashdot last I checked. You've even got your own channel on My Netscape. People get tired of too much advertising, dig? Yeah, I know you're proud of whatever themes.org redesign or whatever you've done this week, but people will find out by other means. Those who go to themes.org once will tend to go back; isn't the news update right on the front page enough?
Remember "Dick", the Miller Lite guy? You don't see Dick any more. Why? There were so many Dick ads that people got sick of 'em, and in the end, the whole Dick campaign didn't raise Lite's sales enough. I know you're not selling anything, but this should be an example to you - overpromote yourself, and people will tune out. I'm not going to sit here and call you a Dick (pun intended) but it's obvious some people will. Take a note and lay off the self-promotion for a while. People know who you are and where to find you. Let them find you on their own, rather than yelling "Over here!" all the time.
