GRE Tunneling with Linux

Eric asks: "Does anyone have some information for people learning how to setup a GRE tunnel with linux? I know there is kernel support, but that's about as far as i've gotten, I can't seem to find any info on the web about how to setup a GRE tunnel. And major and minor number for making a GRE0 device would be gladly accepted."

That search turns up quite a bit on "linux" and "vpn" but very little (scratch that, nothing) on "gre", which is an imporatant part of the question at hand.

Just for fun, I went to Yahoo! and did a search on "+gre +vpn +linux" and came up with tons o' useful links.

Always check the LDP and specifically the VPN Mini-HOWTO.

I shouldn't have to tell you this.

I've been collecting all the documentation I can find on the new Linux 2.2 networking code for several months; have a look at my Mostly Networking page.

ANK has released his "IP Command Reference" (you can find it on the site) that will probably tell you all you need to know.
