SlashNET Forum
SlashNET will be having a forum with the
XMMS Project (formerly known as x11amp) today,
June 19th, at 20:00 UTC (16:00 EDT) in the #forum channel. Afterward, a log
will be available
here on our FTP
server. Hope to see you there!
The IRC server (for those of you who don't know) is: irc.slashnet.org
oh yes daveo also kindly asks if you would have any idea of why his post was labeled "off-topic" as his topic was on-topic not off-topic. he wonders if some of the moderators only do not like him., that would be a shame because he has faith in the overall /. system and wishes all of us could just not fight and talk equally without having our good comments rated down.

I like the list of rich features Xmms has and made me think of what lacks in x11amp. One of the things I wished x11amp had was a way to run it from a telnet session, without X for those times I just did not have the server fired up. I saw Xmms has key bindings, so I hope there is an easy way to hack it to allow a mpg123 command line mode.
.mp3 > playlist
Making a playlist for Xmms is sweet: locate
The possibility of recording... yummy!
I'd like to know if there are plans to change the name to something more catchy. XMMS for a name sucks.

ftp://ftp.slashne t.org/pub/slashnet/forums/xmms_06-19-1999.txt.gz.
That directory also contains the logs of several past forums, including the mandrake forum.
Beware, Nugget is watching... See?
Also wanting to avoid WinAMP's shadow somewhat. But also, like you said, avoiding PlayMedia's claim on anything named *amp.
Sam: "That was needlessly cryptic."
Max: "I'd be peeing my pants if I wore any!"
One thing I really hate about reading logs in Netscape is that the plain text files have long lines that force me to scroll horizontally often. I generally save the file and from a shell window do a:
fmt -s -w 79 log.txt | less
to read it, but it would be nice if you could do this for us lazy people.
Do some focus groups. You'll agree.

WHAT IS THE PROGLEM HERE DAVEO IRCED TO SLASHNET.ORG, AND WHEN HE TYPED "JOIN #FORUM" THERE WAS NOTHING. PLEASE EXPLAIN TO DAVEO WHY THAT WAS OFF-THE-TOPIC OR WHAT HAP[PENED TO THE ROOM? DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS PROBLEM ALSO?

because you type in caps and litter the comments page with dumb statements all the while wondering what happened.
or perhaps three if you don't the "he, he, he...." :-)
line
Commodore 64, Loading up the dance floor!
To avoid being sued; fear of having anything named *amp.
The only thing I could decipher from that was
"Sound on linux sucks"
"Video on Linux sucks"
"Esound sucks"
"He, he, he, he, he...yeah...he, he, he"
Hmmm. Seems to me like direct support for alsa would be good. After all, alsa drivers will soon be distributed with the kernel by default.
ALSA will soon be distributed with the kernel.
I'll be surprised if the linux distros don't default to it then.
ALSA does implement the oss-light interface. If xmms sticks to that, I think all should be fine.
Maybe because you got there too late? Did you read the part that said 16:00 EDT (that's 4:00 pm Eastern)? Also, I have a few suggestions for you... first, stop talking in the third person. Makes you sound like a moron. Second, there's a key on the left side of your keyboard, marked 'Caps Lock'. Press it ONCE - then never touch it again.

Max: "I'd be peeing my pants if I wore any!"
Guess I'll need to step up the work on LiveIce.... I need a GUI (any GTK experts out there ;-)
daveo has adopted a new non-caps policy. anyway he arived at the chat at 4:23 EDT when it shood have been in full swing, but their was no chat to be seen of

ALSA is linux specific and not setup by default in any linux distros, whereas OSS runs on many unices and is the default in all linux distros. Therefore the best platform for them to target is OSS, because the reach a significantly larger chunk of the market. That doesn't mean they shouldn't support it, but since everything is done with plugins, it would make more sense for them to let someone who knows ALSA do it, and work on other things.
This is off topic, I know, but how do people feel about a posting ban on all first posters? i.e. ban that ip address for a fixed period.
dave (you can find an email address on my webpage)
I'd complain about the caps, but somebody else already has, and you seem to have reformed.
Anyway, you have to type "/join #forum" to join the channel. When you type "join" without the '/', it gets interpreted as message, not a command.
Also, don't talk about yourself in third person, it makes you sound arrogant. Few people can tolerate someone who is both ignorant and arrogant.
Has anyone noticed that in mpg123 and anything based on it (XMMS), the memory usage increases as the song progresses? It doesn't bother me with most songs, but it gets annoying with songs longer than 10 minutes. This has appeared on the mpg123 mailing-list, so I didn't bother sending a bug report; however I was wondering in anyone knew why it did this.
actually that is what daveo meant he typed but it did still not work. as for daveo talking about himself in the third paerson: well, he realizes that some people do not like it. for caps, all he needed too do was press oner key, but it would be hard to change his entire way of talking? if you woke up won day to check the /. chat rooms anfd you saw everywon talking differnwetly then you would it be so easy to change your style? now, and it is hard fore daveo too, but he will keep it in mind to try to change it in the future. thank yo for the suggestion. also he was wondering; how does daveo ignorant?
