Perl Activists win White Camel Awards

The first White Camel awards were presented to some well-deserving folks at the Perl Conference 3.0. Tom Christiansen, Kevin Lenzo and Adam Turoff were the three winners. Click below for details.

The awards were sponsered by Perl Mongers, O'Reilly and sourceXchange-so hats off to them for good work.

Tom Christiansen won the Perl Advocacy award for his work on the documentation, while Kevin Lenzo won the Perl Community Award for his work in "Yet Another Perl Conference" creation/design. Adam Turoff won the Perl User Group Award, for his efforts in making the first group, helping in Perl Mongers and encouraging formation of many other user groups.

Keep up the good work, guys.

    If you went to yapc, you'd know. People like him, Tom, Adam and countless more make this community (not just Perl -- opensource, etc.) so different from everything else and so excellent. Strength from diversity, rah rah rah.

    they could just mirror their site.. which actually might not be that good of an idea, i don't know.. but for when slashdot goes down.. gets too slow, something. maybe having another processor would be nice, who knows? (not me, obviously..)

    and that was my $0.000001 worth for today.

    Heh - that's the truth.

    I respect the guy because he's put alot of hours in doing high quality stuff, especially stuff that others don't do, like the documentation.

    But that doesn't give him license to be rude as hell to pretty much anyone he meets in comp.lang.perl.misc. If usenet newbies wind him up and he can't control his temper he should just keep out of it. People would give him alot more respect that way.

    Tom's days as the paragon of help and assistance in the Perl community are pretty well over. Back when he was The Guy, perhaps he had a leg to stand on, but I think that he certainly believes he is The Man and The Shit, tho his legend no longer lives up to reality.

    Schwartz shoulda gotten it, man. He's out there _still_ working it. Or maybe Salzburg. Somebody who after you interact with them you don't feel like you've been crapped on.

      Agreed. I have chatted online with tchrist and found him to the the biggest windbag I have ever met. He is no longer interested in helping others, but merely self-promotion and derision for anyone who doesn't know exactly what he does.

      I appreciate the sentiment, and was nominated. However, since I'm on the board of directors of one of the co-sponsors of the White Camel awards, I'm automatically disqualified.

      Maybe they're just pissed because he acts like an obnoxious jackass. And he thinks that the fact that he is a big shot makes it allright. See comp.lang.perl.misc. for a taste of it. His stunts include spamming the readers of the group ( as well as insulting newbies who ask for help, and post lousy code to the group )

      Still, you've gotta like his perl books ... (-;
