Smart Cards or SecurID tokens and *BSD?

Yet Another Anonymous Coward asks: "I'm looking for some means of physical user authentication for a web based or java application that will let me run the server on FreeBSD (or any Linux distribution if not available for FreeBSD). SecurID is adequate in theory, but buying non Intel based machines just for it is not an acceptable option, nor is relying on NT for security. Requiring a smart card reader on each potential machine is acceptable if needed. "

    Take a look at M.U.S.C.L.E

    I learned about this project at the Atlanta show during a presentation on the Secure Filesystem project at the University of Minnesota. They are using it extensively for their project, the site for that project is www.securefilesystem.org

    Is there any way that new Blue American Express card could be used with this system? I was reading their page and their software is only for Windows NT,9X. Could I also use this as part of my login? That'd be a really nice way to secure stuff.

    MUSCLE is good of course but a simple barcode reader hooked to an rs232 port and sealed in the machines case and a simple barcoded ID card is usually more than sufficient and will probably be cheaper for linux...dunno bout BSD.
