Form over function is usually not the best way to go, but the manufacturer's don't care. They only want you to be trapped in a perpetual upgrade cycle, so even if you're happy with what you have, it breaks in a short time (and replacement parts are intentionally not available) and you end up left with no choice.
It's only going to get worse.
