The main problem that we are facing in getting high bandwidth connections to everyone is not very high bandwidth backbones. It's population distribution. Sure 15 of these fibers would give the backbone needed for every person in the US, but we'd still have to put a T1 from every person to the backbone. Think about how many powerlines there are. That's about what we're going to have to replicate to get internet access everyone.
