I work for a software company where I manage our billing mediation product R&D team. Basically what the software does is collect all the billing information (xDRs) from the network, and forward it to the billing software.
We also provide billing mediation for AMDOCS (which do the billing for Sprint). We have mediation systems installed at Spring, but not for billing.
What I can tell you is that billing companies, and AMDOCS in particular, are giant companies with poor human resources, that make money due to the profitable market they are in. It is a very competitive market where only large companies can make it.
Working with such companies is a nightmare, their software is terrible, their skills are poor, and we have to bend over backwards just so that their software will work.
In my opinion it is magical that billing actually works most of the times (if it really does).
