Thanks for your post. Your posts corrects a mistake that I made. Some of the open source companies do own their IP, MySQL is an example of this. This issue I was trying to communicate is that that the IP of Open Source companies is not protectable from use by competitors because it is licensed under GPL (or a similiar license agreement). Some potential acquirers are comfortable with this, some are not.
