  1. Re:Why should anyone object? on Clinton Frowns on Anonymity · · Score: 1

So basically your saying we should make all our actions known to the gov. simply because we have nothing to hide? Im interested to hear how your opinion on strip searches. If a police officer and/or gov. official wished to strip you naked in front of perfect strangers and violate every orafice in your body in the name of "justice" would you allow them? You have nothing to hide right? Why not let them explore regions of your body that not even your lover has probably seen. The bottom line is the gov. has no right to crawl up your ass, the same goes for your hard drive!

  2. this is great for local music on FCC: Legal Low-Power FM Broadcasting Coming Soon · · Score: 1

This is great news for local bands trying to be heard. If local bands got together and started up smaller stations they could get the exposure needed to generate an audience, completely forgoing record company's. Not only would you be heard in your own town, but if networks of these smaller stations popped up across the country, totally dedicated to playing unsinged talent, you could be heard across the country. If this took off, could it possibly mean the end of Brittany Spears and pop radio? I can only hope so.

  3. Re:high speed reclusivity on High Speed Net Access Defining College Life · · Score: 1

Having these high peeds right in your bedroom is definately a mixed blessing. On one hand if you have a fridge in the room you never have to leave. You can just sit and stare all day long. When i got to colege and relized this, I enede up screwing myself over big. I just stopped going to my classes so i could quake all day. (no lag is a great advantage i didnt have at home) As a result i ended up with a .7 gpa for the semester. Of course who's dumbass fault is that? I think its funny how the university legitimizes spending this much money on high speed networks by saying it will ultimately help the students with their education when, at this point, it's simply a distraction. If they wanted to use it as an education tool instead of a draw for possible students (making money is all that seems to matter) they would offer more classes online. As of now there is a total of one course at my school offered on the net. A few others allow you to take tests online but attendance in class is still a must. I had an english class that took place in a computer lab, and instead of discussing the current course work out loud to the entire class, we would turn around to the computers, get into seperate little chat rooms and discuss the work with two maybe three other people. Why this couldnt be done in my room is beyond me. I dont know about any of you, but if all my courses were offered online it would definately be much easier to learn the information in the comfort of my own room instead of in a huge lecture auditorium in those stiff desks with barely enough elbow room to wright down the notes. Other students being a distraction, constantly whispering back and forth behind you. My only hope is that with high speed access becoming more popular on campus it will become the standard within the community. And maybe by then university's will offer courses to anyone with high speed connectivity across the world, greatly reducing tuition costs by not having to live on campus. But what am i thinking, thats less money for the higher ups to stuff their pockets with. I guess the only way many things get accomplished is by appealing to the greed of whoever's in charge. Dot you just love this country.

  4. Re:Open Source Music on Are MP3 Web Sites Unfair to Indie Artists? · · Score: 1

you have some valid points. But, If we dont support our artists and musicians financially, it becomes harder for them to produce a decent product. I'm in a band myself and its extremely hard to put out good songs when we have to worry about other things like work and class. And when we do get together to play we're already completely burned out from the rigorous week of work and school. All im saying is the quality of music would go up if we financially supported artists (who deserve it) so they have the time and energy to write and play. Thats only my view, tear it apart if you see any flaws.

Of course someone can post with a different name evry time, but how are you gonna know its the same guy? So now instead of one person harrasing you ya got ten, what are you ganna do, get restraining orders put on all of them? Seems a bit unrealistic to me. And even if the guy does have a restraining order from posting, then couldnt post on another identity? Trying to regulate speech on the internet is just like trying to put an end to all drug use, it just aint gonna happen, its unrealistic to try, and it only violates human rights in the end.

the cops are now allowed to use highly sensitive heat imaging techniques when spying on your house. Its constitutionality has been tossed around, at first a court ruled it illegal, but recently a higher court said it was cool. Its fucking bullshit that the cops can do this shit.
