The thing is, the games were ported *TO* the PC, not *FROM* the PC. I agree that the system is difficult to program for, and it's a shame they are losing their exclusives. IMO those are where the games and hardware could shine. Rather than program for the lowest common denominator, they could focus all their energy on getting the most out of the awkward APIs and doing something great on the PS3. What it boils down to is this - until a truly next gen exclusive comes out (see my previous post for the ones I'm waiting for) the PS3 really doesn't have a gaming leg to stand on. It'll just be a pretty black box capable of running Linux for geeky people like me.

The PS3 isn't an exception. People are really hot to call it a failure though... and while I think the machine is great, with the games available right now, it most certainly is not a game console in my eyes.

I have a PS3, and as a game system, I think it sucks. Over 50% of the games currently out for the system are made by SEGA, and each and every one of them I hate.

In fact, I find it funny that the only highly rated games for the system are ports from successful PC games. The reviews are high, but they all say the same thing - "If you played this on PC, there's nothing new here." So why shell out $60 more for something I played 1-2 years ago?

I'll buy GT5, White Knight (if we see it here), FF XIII... that's about it. Those are all over 12 months away still, and I knew that when I bought the system.

In the meantime, I have it set up to run Linux, and it serves as a media PC for me.

All the PS3 needs is games, and it needs good ones, not the garbage freely flowing from SEGA studios.

  4. Re:Oh I wouldn't say that... on Mario and Sonic Make History in New Olympic Game · · Score: 2, Insightful

I played California Games on my old 286... had some fun with hacky sack, but that's about it. The game just didn't hold it for me. A party game could be fun, but in the Olympic setting? Who gets the best 100m dash score? It's the TYPE of event that would make or break this game. I agree a sim would suck, and that's what I'm saying. When you move away from sims, it is no longer an "Olympic" title. I can hope that it would be fun, but I just don't see it happening.

  5. Oh I wouldn't say that... on Mario and Sonic Make History in New Olympic Game · · Score: 1

I can't see this being a great game. It doesn't matter who the characters are, Olympic sports just don't translate well in to the game medium.

Does anyone else remember that old Nintendo pad that you ran on to win the race game...? Exactly.

Yeah, I've noticed that the traditional trumpet didn't exist, so I've been trying to find "brass" in general - not fanfareish, but things that I could make work. Your suggestion of the Cornetto is a good idea, I'll look in to that. Thanks for the rest of the great info!

Interesting find, thank you! That's been helpful. I'll expand my search, and see what I can come up with.

  8. What I'm really looking for... on Finding Digital Scans of Sheet Music? · · Score: 3, Informative

Ok, perhaps I wasn't overly clear in the original post - what I'm really looking for are some Trumpet solo pieces that are Renaissance period. I'm active in the SCA (medieval re-enactment) and while I know that the trumpet wasn't present in its current form, it's what I know how to play. So, I'd like to find some period pieces that I cna play by myself. Most of the classical stuff I find is for strings, or full arrangements for an orchestra. I'm interested simply in trumpet solo pieces. Does that help narrow it down any? Thanks for the replies so far!
