  1. Re:Losing a battle to win a war. on Sony Starts a Standards War Over Wireless USB · · Score: 1

Who cares WHY Sony "added the Linux feature". They still "added the Linux feature", and if you're looking for a fully-functional "Linux feature" in a game console and you don't want to void your warranty by hacking it (a la XBOX), then the PS3 is the console for you. End of story.

  2. iPhone on Dvorak Says gPhone is Doomed · · Score: 1

Has this man never heard of the iPhone? Just because he has the same last name as a really smart guy who made keyboards, doesn't mean he can decide that Google will fail. For some reason, John has an insatiable appetite for pissing all over Apple, and since Google and Apple have some of these business deals going (GMaps in iPhone, et cetera), he's gonna be pissing all over Google, too.

You shared your CD with somebody?!?! You bastard! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to report you to the RIAA, mister. Say goodbye to your happy life. :P

  4. Schools ban educational sites...? on Why Are Students Liable for School Insecurity? · · Score: 1

Some schools are banning sites due to the fact that some students go to them compulsively. Take YouTube, for instance... while there are a lot of viral-type videos that people can't stop watching on that site, there are also many videos that can act as educational resources. It should be the TEACHER's or the LIBRARIAN's responsibility to make sure that the students are not using those sites for things that have nothing to do with school. But, since they block those sites entirely without even considering their educational possibilities, those students find ways to get around the blocks. I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I only use the school's internet access for my own educational benefit... but for those sites that are blocked that I need resources from, I need to use a proxy server. My school district does a good job at blocking proxies as they are discovered by the students, but we all find a new one within days. Once again... it is the TEACHER'S responsibility that we are using the computer for good... because, unlike the IT Admins... some teachers actually have a bit of common sense. *GASP*

  5. Block the voters...? on How to Stop Digg-cheating, Forever · · Score: 1

You know... an even better way to get rid of that exploit of the service, is not to block the votes, but to block the voters. Add a Digg/Bury function to the users themselves. Have everybody start-out with a rank of 5, and if they are "Buried" due to a high number of people voting against them, then their rank goes down, and their weight goes down in the voting. And if they are dugg, then their weight goes up. That may sound like an exploitable system, too... but I can compare it to Wikipedia in that anybody can screw it up if they want, but the community in general has good morale and the system will even itself out over time.

  6. Quality? on YouTube To Pay For User-Generated Content · · Score: 1

I have only skimmed those replies before me, but haven't you people thought of the possible rise in quality of the videos on YouTube? Hopefully, Google will put some sort of verification process into the system so that people aren't getting paid for their shitty videos. Right now, most of the videos are crap. You can hear the microphone buzz louder than the dialogue, and most of the humor is painfully immature. Now more, better movies should be at the top of the most-viewed lists.

Yeah, but the thing is, by 2048, I'm afraid cloning will be banned in all the countries with enough money to develop cloning technology!

  8. Thanks, Jimmy! on Jimmy Wales Resigns Chair at Wikipedia · · Score: 1

While Wales was a great chairman, no matter how well a leader leads, they still need to be switched out every once in a while. Wikipedia is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to the internet, and now that there is a new chairman to the initiative, there will be more new ideas to, hopefully, advance the wiki project even further.

  9. iPod Theater on Gadgets From the Future · · Score: 1

I'm afraid the iPod Theater will make me look like I'm on my way to the Star Trek Convention, good thing I won't be buying one any time soon. Usually those kinds of things are disorienting (especially during action movies!), and those that I've tried don't even work very well. I say, put your money into buying a real 50"screen rather than a simulation.
