I'm a big fan of the timbuk2 courier bag. I've had one for a couple of years now and its great.
Unlike most computer bags the timbuk2 was designed by and for bike couriers who carry their bag on their shoulder all day every day. Its much more comfortable than a day pack and its waterproof to boot.

They've got a new "commuter computer" bag and a nifty laptop sleeve. Also got nice accessories like a big strap pad and cell phone holster.
All this quality comes at a hefty price... a fully outfitted bag with all the 'must have' goodies will set you back over $200. You get to pick all the colors as well as the fabric. (ballistic nylon, Codura, or Waxed Canvas for the earthy types)
I pack my laptop, pager, digital camera, tripod, cords, accessories, and other stuff and its comfortable to carry. Even fits under the seat in front of me when I fly. (who wants to get up just to bust out your laptop or mp3 player?)
Nice company... good MADE IN USA quality. (elderly seamstresses in San Francisco)

"But it won't be easy. A Pricewaterhouse Coopers survey released to USA Today Friday found that 75 per cent of U.S. music downloaders said they would stop downloading free music if they had to pay."
Heh... if they had to pay 100% would stop downloading free music!
The fine folks over at the Archimedes Project are researching a bunch of stuff, new GUI designs included.
The Total Access System project seeks to provide access to technology through a clean separation of the information to be accessed from the form of presentation required for individual users. The project is designing personal accessors that will talk to host computers and computer-based devices through infrared communications links. The accessors will thus become part of a three-way system, the Total Access System, that has been designed by Neil Scott. A complete TAS includes: an individualized accessor, an interface to a host computer or computer-based device, and a standardized link connecting them.
They are looking for volunteers if you're interested in helping out. I met them on a list-serv I was subscribed to and their work is very interesting.
Years ago I installed OS/2 with VoiceType dictation. I was very excited about using my voice to control my computer. My wife was less excited. She all but threatened divorce. Its one thing to spend hours on the computer, but when I started talking to it... well that was too much for her.
After years of typing my handwriting has devolved so much I can't see handwriting recognition being any benefit to me.
Lets skip both and move forward with research on thought recognition. You wear a headband, hat, wrist strap, ring or something and you control your computer (or at least a pointer) with thought commands.
The goal is to have an imput device that you could use in public without looking or sounding like an idiot.

So... The space fungus aliens have negotiated a deal with the Russian government and they will be given Earth.
Mir comes down in Feb... Alien space fungus rules the planet by 2005. Interesting that they have chosen to wipe out life in the Oceans first.

Audio Concepts in Houston TX has Lowe CRT widescreens. Great picture for around 2K. Also lots of 16:9 RPTVs if you have more bread to spend. --Obscura
I had no idea the effect would be so swift and devistating. (long lasting too) Where do I get the "I've been slashdotted" Tee-Shirt? -Obscura
The hobby store where I got the rust stuff had a Gold Leaf kit. Hmmmm....
