Honestly, how can people POSSIBLY say that you need to have used MS Word in order to know how to use it?
Anyone capable of learning how to use an OSS word processor is easily capable of learning to use MS Word. Seriously, how hard is it to click through the available options to see what you can do? And how hard is it to learn how to change the margins?
And if there's anything you CAN'T figure out, how hard is it to take 5 minutes to google it?

Students who can't learn how to use more than one word processor (or can't adapt to a new one used in their workplace) have obviously missed the education boat, and should be sent back to school to learn HOW TO LEARN.
Honestly, have we completely forgotten what it means to get an education?
I have an idea! Since there aren't enough self-motivated female engineers, we just need to offer them financial incentives and then they, too, will be self-motivated!
And since when has the gender gap in engineering been hidden? And at my university, of the women who WERE engineers, it looked like someone had come through the department with the ugly stick...
If you're feeling offended right now, you need to stop and realize that you COULD have thought "this doesn't apply to me", but that's not what you thought... Do something to boost that self-confidence:)
That kind of power doesn't belong in the hands of mortals....
"We'd like you to write the code that determines who to fire." or better yet... "We'd like you to write the code that determines who to promote to what position."

Isn't that Moore's 2nd law? The laziness of programmers doubles every 2 years...
I have an idea... we could build a big wooden badger!
