I am an avid PC gamer, own a custom-built system (built by a local business) and just deleted Ubuntu from my computer. Why? Upgrades and installing drivers got to be too much of a hassle. Gamers like me love their video cards, and after spending a week during which my free time was devoted to getting the newest set of nVidia drivers to work with my new video card, I realized two things:
1. Finding a person with the same hardware setup, version of Linux & same problem is almost impossible, and
2. When you do find that similar cry for help on a message board or forum, there will always be some zealot bitching about how blob binary drivers are worthless and stupid and against the ideals of the Linux community.
A real gamer tweaks his stuff and isn't afraid of slapping on the ol' anti-static bracelet for some component & system shifting/tweaking/optimizing. They don't let their pre-configged box stay that way very long. So back in comes the "ndiswrapper" argument. When I do a retard-simple video-card upgrade with XP (of which I am no fan) I have to admit it is very easy; pop in a CD, click OK a few times and reboot.
No editing Xorg.conf. No tarballs with mysteriously non-functional installers. No command line BS. NONE. And that's how it should be, and until Linux freaks catch up with the rest of the Plug-And-Play world brought to the masses by Apple and spread by M$, you're still going to be the least-fun guests at the LAN party.
It's hard to discern whether or not you're trolling or just ignorant. Either way, each of your three points is flawed.
1. The Wii-mote is the "ONLY difference worth mentioning in this crop of game consoles"? So, secondary purchases like GAMES are totally irrelevant then, right? Hard-core or not, people will flock to the console with the best games of their genre. The NES wasn't a hit because it came with a light gun or had an after-market glove input device. As a matter of fact, the Duck Hunt gun and PowerGlove probably wasted more R&D and marketing dollars than brought in revenue.
2. The Xbox 360 already has a head start on both the Wii and PS3 for units sold. And how do you so easily equate the PS3 and Xbox? They look nothing alike, their processor specs might as well be night vs. day, and thus will set very different limits on what devs are capable of creating.
3. So, the PS3 will fail because only the rich & stupid "hard core gamers" will buy it. You're only correct about Sony bleeding money by selling it, but that's not exclusive to Sony (hellloooo Xbox) and the loss can be recouped by selling things like memory cards, disk drives, and HDMI cables, to name a few common purchases.
Finally...the BluRay player will only help boost sales, god willing the mighty Sony gets its paws on enough blue diodes to build the damn things. Adding BluRay might sink any (remote) chance Sony had turning a profit by selling the PS3 unit, but will expand their media division's possible market in spades.
