I would be a part of the split that wants it to be an option, an auto-sizing input box would ANNOY me to no end.
But you've got to be kidding me that they seriously split over this. Make it an option, stay together, call it good. Wow...just...wow.
I would not purchase a PS3 without backwards compatibility. The few games I do play that are BC look good (not great) and its nice not to have to have my PSone and my PS2 taking up shelf space.
I also 3 the blu-ray player. If I were to break it down:
40% as a blu-ray player
35% as a PS3
24% as a PS2/PSone
1% as a music player
Oh well...
I am currently running Windows XP Professional x64 with 64-bit processor types nearly since its release.
The only potential hiccup I encountered was finding an x64 driver for my HP printer; but there is a nice group that came out with drivers that while they claim aren't perfect, I have never had any problems with (both printing and scanning).
If you've ever low-level coded for x64 it can be slightly more painful or new; but its definitely worth it in the end (as well as multi-core).

Not sure your point is very well founded. I would've paid more for my PS3. I love it and every feature it has, it was worth every penny.
