    How much of that "90%" is spent keeping 40+ tabs open at a time though? Honestly, how many people do you know that keep that many websites open for as long as you are talking about?

    I'm sorry, but your complaint sounds like the owner of a Suburu WRX getting pissed off that they can't go rock crawling with it. "But it has all wheel drive!"

    I highly doubt the makers of web browsers intended their software to be keeping track of 40-50 different tabs at a time.

    As for the parent, if they have a job that requires them to have that many tabs open for the length of time he/she is talking about, I'm sure they could get it through their company with minimal effort.

    I rarely use GIMP, since my only system with Linux (Ubuntu specifically) is my Dell Mini 9. GIMP's interface is too big for the puny resolution on there anyway, so I pretty much never use it.

    Still, it's always a shame when a tradition like this is broken up, even if it is done for good reasons.

    Have you considered adding a small laptop to your setup to help allieveate having so many sites open on a single computer? Or do you already have multiple systems on your desk?

    From what I have seen AT&T claims they have the "fastest", while Verizon claims it has the "largest". From my own experience, this seems true.

    Sorry to burst your bubble, but those keys were for free downloadable content. The armor and expansions are all available as pay-for DLC...what came in your box was essentially gift cards for that content. I pre-ordered Dragon Age so that I could get the Golem for free, and since I did it through gamestop, I also got cards that had codes on them for a couple of rings.

    All of it DLC that you can buy if it didn't come included in the box. Why do you think you had to be connected to EA's servers when you entered the codes?

    You are confusing unlockable content with downloadable content. You can buy, install, and play Dragon Age Origins without any form of DRM other than the disc check. If you want to use downloadable content, that is a different story...but the game itself is DRM free. That was my point.

    Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but the video "card" in a 360 is, as I understand it, a member of the R500 family...keep in mind, however, that since any games released on the 360 will be using a specific hardware configuration, developers are able to squeeze much more out of it instead of the scaling performance necessary for PC games. Also keep in mind that PC ATI cards are currently slightly past the midlife of the R700 series...I personally think there is going to be one more revision before the R800 revision comes out, but that is just a guess...no concrete evidence whatsoever to base that on.

    Their downloadable content requires it, yes...but the game itself ships with no DRM other than an old school serial number and DVD check. No online activation required, no install limits, nothing.

    Sims 3 was the same way.

    What are you talking about? Dragon Age, their most recent release, has no DRM past an old school serial number and DVD check! There is no online activation required, no install limits, nothing. Now, granted, the downloadable content for it has DRM, but the base game itself has ZERO DRM.

    I don't own it, but I believe Sims 3 shipped without DRM as well.

    Perhaps you are referring to the Mass Effect and Spore debacles from a year or two ago?

    Oh, I don't know...I think all of them would, given the opportunity. Fox just has no shame, so they are willing to actually go and do it. None of them are worth anyone's time, though. Their goal (Fox, MSNBC, etc.) is to sell advertising, not relay the news.

    Eh...I've played both the 360 and the PC version, and the PC version is still vastly superior. Regardless of which direction the game was done in (consoles -> PC or PC -> consoles) it still feels at home on the PC.

    Still, I agree with the overall premise of the thread...PC gaming has been on the decline because PC exclusives are no longer as big a deal. It's a real shame, since the days of needing to drop two grand on a gaming PC are gone. About $500-$600 will build you a PC that can play almost any modern game at full detail settings, AND last a couple years before needing an upgrade.

    Ignoring your sarcastic wit:

    my "polling" includes family members and friends, overall around 40-50 people or so. The majority of my friends are massive dorks like me, and while they had heard of it, none of them use it (or admitted to using it). Of my family members, only two had even heard of it, and neither used it.

    Is it possible that some of them use it now that they know about it? Of course. But I'm just asking people I know, not creating a scientific poll.

    I have friends that do the same thing I do and most of them have had no where near the same problems with ATI cards. But for me, no more ATI Radeon cards.

    I know I don't know you, so forgive me for being a douche, but...maybe you should think about changing careers?

    Microsoft, like EA, has been redeeming themselves for the past couple of years. Much like EA realized they were screwed due to their draconian DRM, Microsoft realized it screwed the pooch with Vista. They really have been turning things around, and they seem to be making their business more nimble and listening to what their customers truly want (excluding WinMo 6.5).

    A monster like Microsoft can't change direction on a whim. It takes time. Windows 7 is a decent indicator of where they are headed.

    Seriously? I don't personally know anyone that uses Bing, and I even know a few people that aren't even aware of its existence.

    I know that who I kow is a very small slice of "everyone", but still...where are these legions of people using Bing? Could the fact that many Windows Mobile phones use Bing as their default search engine be contributing to this number?

    So, if they'd called themselves "thetorrentbay" and not used the pirate ship logo, and not publicly told companies giving them take-down notices according to laws that don't apply in their country to shove off for more or less exactly that reason, then everything would be fine?

    Sorry to sound uncaring, but technically they are right...often times takedown notices DON'T apply to them due to the country they happen to be operating in. A technicality, nothing more. I and everyone else in the world know full well the purpose of Pirate Bay...but still, shutting them down is a bad idea.

    Did you listen to the third Penny Arcade DnD podcast? In it, they face a dwarf riding around on a boar. They consider knocking him off a boar, but then realize that having them seperated would be worse than leaving them intact, since they could then flank and gain combat advantage.

    Destroy the Pirate Bay, and the same thing will happen as when Suprnova was taken down. It will shatter into a million little splinters, only causing "pirates" to take up their cause with renewed vigor. I'm not saying what they are doing is right, but it is an entirely futile effort.

    Honestly, content providers and people that work for them are better off ignoring the problem. Every time they make a high profile move, it just gives Pirate Bay and places like them free publicity...chances are, they create more problems than they solve with things like this.

    Just my opinion.

    Again, I if you read my post instead of typing up knee-jerk reactions, you would see that I acknowledged the majority of torrents are used for illegally downloading/distributing software...but again, that is how an individual chooses to use a tool. Using your atomic bomb analogy, the science behind an atomic bomb was originally designed to create cheap, abundant energy. Like most things, it was twisted once it got into the wrong hands.

    Saying that the Pirate Bay is wrong is one thing...but so far, people have been acting like the torrent protocol itself is the problem. Torrents are fine. It's the douche bags who use it to illegally distribute files you should be mad at.

    That's my point...they are using a torrent to distribute legal to download software. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the majority of torrents out there are used for legal purposes; I know that most torrents are for copyrighted software and movies, etc. However, the protocol is used for legal purposes if people choose to do so, and it works quite well. Again, Blizzard officially distributing patches for WoW through a torrent in an effort to reduce server and bandwith costs/bottlenecks is a perfect example of this. As others have said, Pirate Bay is nothing more than a martyr.

    I'm the black sheep in my family when it comes to cooking...most of them are great at it, but if it doesn't come in a box I'm pretty much useless.

    On the flip side, I am the fastest typer, so I at least have that going for me :-)
