Right on! Programming design is a very much individual creative process. Throwing more people in it just cause more problem. I can't count how many times to get conceited but clueless idiots to agree on some simple design decision. Design by committee always cause feature bloated, complicated model, stupid decision, and frustrated people. You just can't believe how many people are pretty clueless about software design.

This is exactly the type of attitude that turns developers off. Why don't you contribute to the Linux community by writing some programs for it instead of chasing people away.

Yes, some users have asked for Linux port, but a very small percentage. I can tell you 99% of my users are using Win95/98/NT. There is no compelling demand for porting to Linux. The reason I was leaning toward releasing under GPL and porting to Linux and Inferno was to trying to help out the underdog and the struggling OSs. I was purely emotionally motivated to port. But seeing how the people here behaved is a huge turn off. Basically I have lost the emotional motivation to port my applications to Linux. Yes it's not very rational, but hey, I don't get paid for doing it, and if I don't get emotional reward neither, why should I port? The part about GPL is that I can't do all the ports myself. If I want my apps to port to other platforms, I need to do it under GPL to let othe people do it. But I have lost faith in GPL. So much for the ports. As how this related to the Garner report, I was just saying that this is one reason Linux doesn't get all the application support that it needs.

The arrogant, narrow-minded, and bigotry mentalities exhibited by the people here are turning developers off. I for one will not release any of my applications under GPL and thus Linux. Let me tell you why.
I have written several applications for Win95/NT a while back. Some of my users have been urging me to release the programs under GPL and port them to Linux and other OS, like Inferno. They said they don't want to reboot from Linux to Win95 to use the programs. And I had given serious thought about it, and had decided to release my programs under GPL and to port to Linux.
Then two days ago, there was an article about the Blue Point project. The article itself is fine as it pointed out some potential problems, but boy, the reaction from some of the people here were bordering on hysteria. I am appalled on some of the bigotry and racist remarks people made here. As a chinese, I am offended by those remarks. And yes, they helped to change my mind to NOT release anything under GPL, not only for my existing applications but for the several projects down the pipeline as well. No GPL, no porting to Linix.
