I don't understand why you see the computer becoming more of an appliance as a bad thing?
It seems to me, for the vast majority of people, the complexity and cost of an upgradeable, general purpose pc, featuring discreet components is complete overkill. Most people do only a few very basic things on their computers. Why should they subsidize those of us who want dragsters, when they just need a Vespa?
