  1. Circular sources on Cannes' Palme d'Or goes to Michael Moore · · Score: 1

Anyone else notice that Moore's web site says, "According to today's (May 5) New York Times, it might "endanger" millions of dollars of tax breaks Disney receives from the state of Florida because the film will "anger" the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush." and when you go to the excerpt of the Times article it says that Moore's agent is the source of this claim. Doesn't really help the guy's credibility. From the Times excerpt:

"Moore's agent Ari Emanuel says Disney chief executive Michael D Eisner asked him to pull out of deal with Miramax last spring, citing concern film could cost Disney tax breaks in Florida, where Bush's brother Jeb is governor; Disney executives deny tax breaks were issue."

  2. Re:Impact on Park? on New Lucasfilm Campus Breaks Ground at Presidio · · Score: 2, Informative

I'm with the group mentioned in that story, the THD. Here's a reprint of a story we ran on why this is a bad deal. Here's a San Francisco Chronicle story about the apparent conflict of interest (you have to scroll halfway down the page) behind the deal.

  3. Office Complex in a National Park is a Bad Idea on New Lucasfilm Campus Breaks Ground at Presidio · · Score: 4, Interesting

This deal sets a very bad precident. The National Park Service was set up to preserve the outdoors, not spur the film industry and there is no other National Park with an 850,000 square foot office complex built on top of it. Though it's true that the Presidio does have a mandate to break even by 2013, a close analysis by a neighborhood newspaper (I've reprinted it here with permission) has shown that this development is un-necessary. Many neigborhood associations and the Sierra Club are against this deal.

    You write:

"I can only conclude that Mr. Behlendorf is a Wired wannabe."

I don't understand why you'd say this. Brian makes it pretty clear how this went down in the Linux Magazine interview:

So Josh and I sat there and did a whole bunch of whois lookups on the Fortune 500 companies. Most of them were registered, except for McDonald's. So I sent in the form and pointed it at a hobbyist site of mine and set up the e-mail address ronald@mcdonalds.com to go to me and to Josh Quittner.

  5. Michael Robinson kicks Eric Stallman Raymond's ass on ESR responds to Ed Muth · · Score: 1

As the other comment points out, we might very well have printed Michael's story had he submitted it for publication. But it's certainly worth linking to. I'll put a link in Eric's piece.
