    Poverty and slums and ghettos are fairly universal thoughout the world, and very rarely does it matter what color of skin one has, compared to others.

    And the one constant is the people in these ghettos look very differently from the people living in the suburbs around the ghettos.

    Odd. Most people feel blessed for surviving cancer, having 4 limbs and working eye-sight, and having a job, for example. I guess I'm cursed since my mom was a secretary and my dad was a mechanic.

    RTFA. It's about misrepresenting data through a visual map, and has nothing to do with Apple's iPhone, "there's an App for that". Otherwise, the headline would read "Apple Suing Verizon" instead of "AT&T Suing Verizon".

    I don't get the allure of "there's a map for that". Most of us live where we live and very few of us use "cell phone coverage area" as a criteria for moving. So if where I live now has good AT&T coverage, I don't see how the Verizon ads are remotely effective.

    Wow, that's pretty harsh. My wife and I make about $120,000/year and we're in debt. I doubt anyone would consider us "irresponsible", though.

    You are confusing "success" with "intelligence". I'd argue that intelligent people are too intelligent to be shrewd, which is what it takes to become rich in this society.

    Maybe I remember incorrectly, but I thought I learned in Psych 101 that Intelligence Quotients were designed to compare the relative intelligence development...IN CHILDREN. I remember something after the age of 12-ish that the quotient is no longer valid, as the test measurement devices end at that level of development. Not the case? Any psychology experts out there?

    To be fair, the entire mouse pad is a clickable button, so there is tactile feedback. There is just no visual separation between left and right button, but clicking in the right half registers as a right-click.

    My only question to your otherwise excellent post is why did you pay an extra $20 for the Family pack when the single edition will work on as many Macs as you have?

    Yes. Snow Leopard is the only one I haven't tried, but every previous version has been a full install version on the disc that installs on any clean hard drive.

    All of their "upgrade" versions are "full" versions (minus Snow Leopard). You can go buy any of the X.1-X.5 "upgrades" and stick them on any Mac or Hackintosh you want. And by "can", I mean you are physically able to..not sure about the legality of it. So yes, there is such a thing as full versions that don't come with a Mac.

    What "full version" copy are you talking about for $599? Maybe it was different with Snow Leopard (stopped caring about this stupid petty argument about 5 years ago), but it seems every version before that was an "upgrade" disc that contained the full version of the OS that had no dependencies on the previous incremental version being installed or not.

    My friends who are "Apple guys" spend a great deal of time talking about things other than updating drivers, highlighting the (mostly trivial, from a functional stance) things that set it apart from the crappy Windows computer they use at work.

    . There, fixed that for you. But seriously, can you project any more? Nobody buys a Mac because it's more useful? None of the professional sound engineers, photographers, print industry professionals, journalist, writers, or any other myriad of people who benefit directly from the very tangible benefits of OSX over Windows? How about me, Joe Schmoe, who uses a crappy PC all day at work and just wants to come home to a computer I don't have to dork around with, so I can go on Facebook, listen to some tunes and play some Warcraft? I think there are far more people like me out there than you think.

    Your post is smug in an anti-smug sort of way. Your post is as ridiculous as you claim your non-nerd friends' behavior is (as described by you).

    I work for a software company (Microsoft certified partner, and all our software only works on Windows OSes) yet the number of MacBooks here at work is disproportionately high compared to the general public.

    And with people skills like your post demonstrates, it is no wonder you don't understand how normal people operate. If you can find any family of three with more than 2 hours of free time on a weeknight, then you have a very bright future in 'family consultation' or something. For the rest of us, we work until 5, we come home and cook dinner, clean up, play with baby, put baby to bed for the night and then 'hope' we can stay awake for the 2 hours we've set aside for ourselves.

    Hmm, my recollection is much different. Apple shut down the clones because UMax, Motorola and PowerComputing had better specs for less money (note: I didn't say they were better, just better specs at a lower price-point). I had two clones (a Motorola and a PowerComputing) and both offered more computer for less money than Apple's offerings, with a slight penalty in quality. They were sort of like buying a Toyota instead of a Lexus...you get the same thing with a little less refinement, and for many of us, the cost savings were worth it.

    My wife and I have a hard time finding the time to keep watching a show if we miss a couple of episodes in a row. If I can't find the episodes we missed on the network's web site, on torrents, or iTunes (in that order, generally), then we just stop watching that show. I think there's a lesson in here somewhere.

    Advertising works? Geico has some of the best commercials (the gecko, the cavemen, the pile of money), but I've never, ever, ever, ever, ever considered buying their goods/services. I know a bunch of their customers and I know enough bad stuff about them that all the funny commercials in the world can't fix.

    Well said. My wife and I watched six episodes of The Office in 2 hours, instead of the 3 hours it would take to watch it live. I don't know about other people, but with a small child and two careers, my wife and I have about a 2 hour limit for any one-sitting tv session.
