What sort of parents are so out of touch with their children (especially underage), that they allow this sort of thing to happen? Parents should always be aware of where their kids are and take some friggin responsibility, rather than let TV and the internet raise them. I couldn't agree more!
If you have to work two jobs, and have little time at home with your kids, don't leave them on their own. Take them to a safe place that holds the same values you do. A place that can teach them and answer their questions when you aren't there. Whatever you do, no matter how busy you are, always make time for them, and remind them that they are important, and keep communication open. In my mind these are basic family values, and the parenting that children need. If you can't provide this, than don't become a parent.
This doesn't mean that "Ted Bundy's" won't surface, but if more parents took responsibility for their children and a more active role as parents, I feel that a great deal of the juvenile crime rate would not exist.
Although this seems to only apply to only those who have a "following" of 500 or more, it potentially affects all of us. The way I see it it can do any or all of the following:
1. Open the door to even more losses in the freedom arena. One has to ask, what's next?
2. There doesn't seem to be a finite line for judgment in the proposed bill. The leaves a lot of room for mis-use in my opinion. Too many ways for the proposed bill to be worked in a way beneficial to other parties once it becomes law.
This bill reeks of freedom grabbing. It goes against one of the fundamental aspects our country was founded on. It also has undertones of the thin skinned person who is commonly very good at shoveling out criticism, but can't take it, and to that all I can say is "if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen".
Even though many of us are aware that not everything on the web is OK to "play with", it would usually seem, and is often a common misconception, that if it is out there for the taking, than there is nothing wrong with doing so. I am glad they dropped the charges against the mother, but they shouldn't still be going after the children. They should be concentrating on those that started the file sharing/music sharing bullshit to begin with. They are the ones that are truly guilty of the wrong doing to begin with. Maybe that doesn't make all others involved completely innocent, but they (in this case the children) certainly don't share a larger portion of the blame. They are having to take the brunt of it however, because those that should be taking the blame are much harder to find.
It appalls me, that a huge corporate industry is picking on the little people of the world in order to line their pockets even further. I can't say it surprises me as the record industry has spent their entire existence lining their pockets off other people's talents, and good looks. After all, recording artists don't make money off CD sales and air time on local radio stations. They make their money from touring because the record industry has already taken almost every last dime from the record sales and radio air time. Recording artists can tour because of the publicity they get on the radio stations, so for them the situation works well in a sense. Exactly where will Patti Santangelo and her children "tour" in order to make up the money the record industry has raped them for? Perhaps the "Today Show" or "Regis and Kelly"?

This reminds me of a quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin:
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
