    It's called a shell account. Everything is right there, easily accessible via ssh. No files to be moved around. A single location to backup!

    mutt for email.
    apache/firefox for viewing attachments

    What more could you want?

    After trying Blackbox, I was hooked. Then, Fluxbox, a newer & better Blackbox, came along!

    Flux kicks ass on tiny laptop screens or dual UXGA flatpanels. :-)

    This is not true. My company creates open-source software and we are truly thriving. We use primarily linux-based pc's and create software for Universities and are beginning to target the private-sector.

    Why don't you just use you linux machine as the gateway? It would simplify things, plus you would be in control of more of the internet at your house.
