Actually, I wouldn't even claim that any person can lay claim to ownership of their genes, as they are both a product of prior evolution by the species, and an integral component of the future evolution of the species as well.
All humans can claim ownership of their bodies, and can do with them whatever they see fit, but their genes are the property of their species as a whole.
