  1. Re:old and needing a new idea on Salon Writes on The Troubles with "Trek" · · Score: 1

I have been a Trek fan since I was 5 years old-- my first crush was on Will Wheaton. Star Trek is something I hold near and dear to my heart, but I think Indy1 is right. Star Trek as it is is dead... If they can come up with a new, fresh idea for a series, that will be great! But everyone is getting bored with ST as it is, and lets face it, Voyager is just kind of silly. I think the idea of a Star Fleet Acadamy series is great, though I am concerned that it would turn into a Beverly Hills 90210 with com badges. What about a ST spinoff that's not necessaraly about Star Fleet, but set in the same universe.

    Just an idea.

I met Illiad at Atlanta Linux Showcase a couple of weeks ago and personally found him to be quite cute. If you search for pictures from the showcase I'm sure you'll find one of him.

You say this like being a geek is a bad thing. I've personally found geekdom to be a wonderful thing to be embraced, not denied or scorned.

Besides, the /. folks have just as much right to laugh at themselves as anyone else.. Then again, I think they all have girlfriends. Interesting parallel.

  5. Re:the flip-side of life on How Not to Attract Geeks · · Score: 1

I don't usually post, but as a geekess (geek/godess of the garden variety) I feel I have to comment here. I personally find geek guys the most attractive out there. OK, so there are those that will code for 72 hours straight and forget to brush their teeth, but what I've found is that they're few and far in between. Most geek guys I know (and most of my friends are also geek guys) are sweet, sensitive, fun to be around, and most of all, incredibly inteligent (a few that I know I would call brilliant)-- The last being what attracts me,and other geek and non-geek females I know, most. Granted, if there is no physical attraction whatsoever, there's not going to be a romantic relationship, but I've met very few completely unattractive geek guys in my life. I have met, however, many men who are very attractive until they open their mouths.

So geek guys take heart. If you make a regular habit of bathing and can hold a decent conversation (which most of you can) you probably have a chance-- Just do something to actually meet women!
