But if you look at most any MIDI file, or watch MIDI data as it's transmitted, you'll see that the majority of the data transmitted consists of what notes to play, with hit velocity, release velocity, and duration attached to each note.
MPEG-4 is something completely different. :) MIDI deals with instrumental data. MPEG deals with audio and video data.
