He's not the first inventor to have an accident trying to get his invention noticed.
"By 1908, the Wright brothers were traveling across the United States and Europe in order to demonstrate their flying machine. Everything went well until that fateful day in September that began with a cheering crowd of 2,000 and ended with pilot Orville Wright severely injured and passenger Lieutenant Thomas Selfridge dead."
Your not far off the mark. I have spent most of the last three years doing environmental analysis on a large project in downtown Ft. Worth called the "Trinity River Vision". http://www.trinityrivervision.org/
The people of Fort Worth were some of the last to know about this. Radio Shack, Pier One and Tarrant County College (among others) all had purchased land along a proposed waterfront before the study ever began.
All the planning for this took place behind closed doors in congressional offices and board rooms. This project is being funded mainly by federal funds in the name of flood protection. In actuallity more people will be at risk to flooding after this project than now.
The projects federal interest is $500 million, I bet it will be over a billion by the time it is done.
Interestingly enough congresswoman Kay Grangers son was hired by the Tarrant Regional Water District to oversee the construction of this project.
Alice is free from Carnegie Mellon University made just for kids. At Version 3 they are getting help form the people at Electronic Arts to be able to include the Sims characters.
My 14 and 12 year old have had a lot of fun building programs with this. It has it's limitations but it's a great start.
Actually, it wouldn't be that hard to find a reef site that you could mimick. I'm sure you can find constant weather, and water temp data from all over the world. You would need full time internet access.
It would be a close model of an actual environment, but your fish would be limited in seasonal migration patterns, food sources, etc.
It would be very relaxing to watch the tank, while realizing that the water conditions are exactly like some favorite spot in the Bahamas.

Did people call the Wright Brothers "Dicks"?
