So, I may be biased, but i work for this Canadian company call Carré Technologies and we make a smart shirt/garmen called Hexoskin (it uses a connected device to gather all the data through the shirt's built-in sensors.
It's not under a watch or a cell phone form factor but rather a standalone product that can use a smart phone to get additional information, but we try to go through actual independant academic research to prove our product actually provides good data.
in any case, you should take a look. the price is somewhat similar to an Apple watch but it does provide more data and more accurately.
