Does it bother anyone to know that the Clinton Administration is doing all it can to disarm America?
And that he has all these friends in the media working in conjunction with him to promote his agenda? (Small example: Clinton turned to Hollywood producer friends, who helped him create a more convincing image during his Monica Lewinsky denials, and had his producer friend - I forget the name - design his "Set" when he addressed the country and admitted the truth of the affair. From the flowers in the picture to the soft lighting, He had every base covered.)
Isn't some of this looking a *little* familiar? We saw how Hitler used the media to promote his agenda (ie: Leni Refenstal's "Triumph of the Will"), and it worked. He took control of Germany, and nearly all of Europe before anyone had a clue as to what happened...
No, there's a larger purpose. Unfortunately, too many people are too short sighted to see it.
Guns (or should I say "Arms") are the means by which we defend our Constitution, and the freedoms we hold so sacred. Though there are a lot of idiots who misuse their right to keep and bear arms, by senselessly shooting up school yards or churches, I prefer those consequences to the alternative: A government similar to that of Nazi Germany. Don't say it could never happen.
It scares me that the Clinton Administration is getting away with raping the Constitution, in the name of doing what "they" know is best for us.
What scares me even more is how the media is feeding off of it - the way they promote their Clinton-esque "violence is bad, let's ban guns and that'll solve the problem" agenda.
What scares me even more that than is the fact that the public is buying it. But slowly our freedoms are being dwindled away, right in front of our eyes.
The Constitution was set up as a set of checks and balances. Every branch of Government balances out the others, to make sure one never gets TOO much power. That was the spirit of the Constitution, and it is in that same spirit that the first and second amendments were included. The Constitution must remain intact. Please don't listen to the propaganda from these spin doctors who will try to convince you otherwise.
All four of the films share common elements. For example, in every film there is a Star Wars reference, A hockey reference, and Brian Halloran, the actor who played Dante appears in a cameo. In Chasing Amy, him and Matt Damon are TV Executives. I don't remember if his name was mentioned or not. In Dogma, I do remember his last name being Hicks. So he's another relative of Dante.
In Dogma, along with this cameo, we also see a cameo of Jeff Anderson (who played Randall) in another role at the gun shop.
For fans of the other movies, there were tons of references to them in Dogma. The Non-Smith fan will miss most of these, but these are the things I picked up when I saw it.
Some of these are kind of obscure, so don't feel too bad if you didn't pick some of them up, it took me two viewings to discover these.
Let me know if I missed anything.
Dante and Randall are in this (Dante was a reporter, Randall worked at the gun store), but I'm sure you saw that...
The gang leader was "Hooper" from Chasing Amy.
The guy with the mustache on the bus (Who Matt Damon shot) was Scott Mosier, the film's producer and co-editor (and as you would guess, also had cameo bit parts in Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy - I think he's the guy who got his arm stuck in a potato chip container in Clerks)
The song "Who's House? Run's House" is played when we first see Holden and Banky's apartment in Chasing Amy.
On the bus ticket window was a sticker that said "Derris" - Rick Derris from all three movies (The guy who seemed to sleep with every girl in town)
The girl at the bus ticket window is played by "Guin Turner", a lesbian filmmaker friend of Kevin Smith in real life, who Alyssa names as one of her lovers in Chasing Amy, and is Joey Lauren Adams' character's name in Mallrats...
The two protestors in front of the abortion clinic are Steve Dave and Fanboy Walt from the comic store in Mallrats. The shorter one's name in real life is Walter Flanagan (As in Uncle Walter and Walt Flanagan's dog...)
Jay suggests hanging out at Quick Stop
On the train is an Ad for "Nails Cigarettes", a ficticious brand Silent Bob used in Chasing Amy.
If you sit through the credits, at the very end is a statement naming the next movie: "Jay and Silent Bob return in Clerks 2"!
I know that smart, gorgeous girls exist, because I've been going out with one for the past 2 years. She's amazing because she defies any single, simple category. While she's beautiful enough to run with the shallow, insecure pack (Whom we both mockingly refer to as "THEM"), she chooses me. She's always accepted me for who I was, and tried to find interest in the things I was into. It was always cool to bring her to deathmatches we'd have in my office after work, or to game and computer conventions. She'd find stuff she was interested in, and that would give us common ground. And that's far better than any relationship I've ever been in. She's more than my girlfriend, she's a great friend, too.
I know that my GF isn't the only one in the world like this. Sometimes if we keep our eyes open, we just might find that we have a chance with some of the ones we think we wouldn't stand a chance with.
They seem so hard to find - I mean, it's hard enough to find someone we get along with and have stuff in common with, much less find attractive. It always seems like we have to trade one for the other. But believe me, finding this one makes it all worthwhile. We just have to be patient, and not let our cynicism get the best of us.
We just can't sell ourselves short because of all our failures in the past. We must uncondition ourselves from believing that we are not good enough for certain people. That's the work of the insecure, who pushed their insecurities on us. Now we have their disease. Insecurity breeds insecurity. Unless we choose to break the chain right now. We ARE good enough.
For those of you who've ever wanted someone who's made it clear to you that you're not good enough for them, take heart in knowing that you really DON'T want one of these chicks.
It's the stupid or shallow ones who'll judge you for being a geek. How could we possibly want someone who'd cast such shallow judgement on us?
And why do we always seem to believe that beauty is inversely proportional to intelligence? Smart, gorgeous girls do exist. They're not always easy to find, but they are out there. And this is a guess, but I'm willing to bet the shallow, insecure, "wouldn't-be-caught-dead-with-a-geek" chicks are more threatened by smart attractive chicks than by us geeks.
I say, be happy with who we are. We certainly don't want the ones who don't accept us.
