  2. support for devices = always cool.... on Linux Now Supports Ultra ATA/100 · · Score: 1

Yes this is cool because everyone that I talk to about linux asks "does XXX device work with linux?". Linux is about the kewl high tech stuff. The flash is what buys mind share. Kudos to all who brought us support for these devices, regardless of the hardware issues.

Only recently have I chanted the correct incantaitions to make ALL of my hardware and peripherals work under linux. I have used linux for 5 years, and only recently has every device I own worked under linux. Thanks to all of the coders who made this possible.

The software I am most greatful for are 3dfx, quake, palm pilot, HP cameras.

  3. 100% M$ XXX compatible... on Is The Microsoft-Free Office Possible? · · Score: 1

I cant change my office now, even though most of the PTB's in our PUBLICLY TRADED company use WP Suite. Because my company is in service, and we send out a lot of proposals and contracts electronically, we are stuck using both M$ and WP. We buy both because the PTB's can't learn how to save in the right format, and our clients are too inexperienced to use the open function in word corectly. Until someone can make something that converts XXX into M$ word, excell, & powerpoint with 100% readability for the m$ drone on the recieving end, I am stuck with microsoft OS and office suites.

I have m2 for windows, and m1 for mac. M2 even had voice taunts. It rocked. I beat m2 on a pc even though it crashed lots and sucked. The bungee guys auta gpl m3, cause it is old news, but it had a sweet level editor bundled with it.

Thank you. I was wondering how long it would take someone to realize that when you type in your changes, you are EXPORTING that code. You type here, and your code TRAVELS down the wire to Iraq. Surely the govenment needs to know about subversive activities, and I for one am glad that there are humble, concerned people like the FBI, CIA, and J. Edgar Hoover wathcing over my e-mails to my friends and family. I am sure they wouldn't ruin your professional reputation to protect their privelige. I am sure that they wouldn't trump up espionage charges, and lock you up for the rest of your life. Have a nice day!

  6. Recruiters CUT your possibilities. on Feature:Geek Jobs · · Score: 1

I have heard that if you contact a agency, and they send your resume to an employer, you _can't_ contact them directly. If you do, the company wont hire you. The hiring company usualy is contractually bound NOT to hire you by agreement with the agency. Thats how they get paid.

The net effect is that most companies do not take time to evaluate on merrit, but trust the agency to get a paper qualified person.

I hate to say it, but I got my job the old fashoned way, I saw it in the classifieds. I was chosen from a field of 20, because I was the only one who had a clue about linux. I also maintain windoze clients. My only official certification was A+. I got in because I knew windoze REALY well, and could also maintiain their servers. It has been 4 months now, and I have been to chicago, NYC, ct, and michigan to fix their stuff, and soon I will be maintaining the e-comerce end of the business.

Small companes are the best, because they will take the time to make sure that the person fits the organization, and will take time to see if the person is a qick learner, which is a bigger asset to them than a harvard wanna-be.
