KDE has a nice crash dialog that even shows you the backtrace (if you have gdb installed) and tells you where to report the error.

The normal Flash stuff that can be found on any normal website.
The Linux version of Flash is slow - much slower than the windows version. I can't run more than one flash applet on a webpage without massive lagging and 100% CPU use. Maybe it's good with a different graphics card... and maybe not.

I concur. Flash is completely unusable on Linux. If this app was made in Flash, I wouldn't be able to run it at all.
It's quite good on a 7 year old PC. I bet I wouldn't see any difference between a desktop app and this thing on recent hardware.

It's integrated into the OS and into many of its applications. Many things won't work without it. Like Windows Update, Steam, Active Desktop and just about any app that integrates IE to view webpages.

You can't really remove it without crippling the rest of the system.

Indeed. New hardware is no excuse for writing inefficient software.
I still use a 6 year old computer for just about everything and I have no plans for upgrading it (unless something breaks that is).
However, I still like fast software. First I cut every piece of bloat from Windows, which proved futile when MS released Vista. Then I switched to Linux. Now I have everything custom compiled for my machine.

When I upgrade, I'll keep this machine for testing new software. If it won't run fast on it, I won't use it.

20GB, 10GB, it doesn't matter. It's still too much compared to my stripped down install of XP (750MB). Your Vista Ultimate wouldn't fit on my system partition and probably doesn't have any features that would justify such waste of space. Considering the tendency of fresh installs to grow, I wouldn't be surprised if it was 20GB after a month or two.
