So that means that everything that is backwards compatible/compatible with some other software is identical to that software?

The kernel is under constant development, but the releases are always quite stable. And nobody forces you to run the latest kernel.

  3. Gentoo's great on New Gentoo 2007.0 Release Gets Mixed Review · · Score: 2, Informative

    Gentoo is great.

    • The blazing fast updates (ebuilds are added daily)
    • The total control you have with it
    • The great community

These all make Gentoo my favorite distro.

If you don't want so many updates, sync less. If you don't want to see all the output, use a frontend. If you want to criticize the founder, go ahead, at least we haven't got Microsoft selling our software.

But the fact is: Gentoo installs great if you use the CLI, you haven't got any extra services running at boot, you can fully customize your system. These are the things I'm looking for in a distro.

FYI: I've never compiled for days. Unless you're too stupid to compile openoffice (we've got binaries too, you know)

    That config is seriously outdated.

  5. Outrageous on Google Loses Cache-Copyright Lawsuit in Belgium · · Score: 1

I personally live in Belgium, but I have to say that this comes as shock. I didn't hear a thing about this on the news yet and don't really understand what the court tried to achieve with this. As some have already pointed out, it has been google's policy for years.
